Visual Art Updates
6th grade has just finished their Henri Matisse artwork. This artwork involves planning a composition based on an event that happened during their childhood, and then cutting out colored shapes to form the composition. Now that they are finished with that, they have started with their 1-point perspective artwork. One-point perspective is a technique where you can make objects look 3D by using a dot and a set of vertical and horizontal lines. The students will have to work with a partner to accurately scale two words that go together, such as syrup and waffles, from a very small size to a larger scale.
7th Grade is currently working on their Pop Art Portraits. These portraits are in the style of Andy Warhol and the goal for this artwork is to successfully recreate a portrait of the artist's face using a color scheme of their choice. The first step is to take multiple reference pictures of their face and pick the best one. After that has been completed they will scale up their picture and use four different colors to represent the average values across the face.
8th Grade has just finished their 21st Century Artist Painting with a partner. This involved a long process of working with a partner to research an artist, plan an artistic composition based on the researched artist’s style, and then finally paint it. Now, they are going into their plasma cutting artwork (photos above), where the students cut out a shape on a piece of steel using a plasma cutter, and bend it into a 3D sculpture.

Mr. Pendergrass's 8th grade science is learning about planetary reasons for the seasons. Students will learn how and why seasons occur. They will also learn about Earth's rotation and revolution around the Sun. Students had a quiz over the material Friday.

If you cannot get in with your doctor, please contact the Minute Clinics, Urgent Care, or the Health Department and make an appointment with them. Southwood Academy’s main office would like to have these by the end of this school year so we can run your child’s schedule over the summer.
