Spain Park High School 09.20.19

A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This week the administration dedicated a great deal of time meeting with teachers and discussing the Educator Effectiveness Program, the tool used to set goals and expectations for our faculty. Visiting classrooms and observing the interaction between our teachers and our students is a large part of this process. I am always amazed at the quality of learning and the depth of knowledge our students are receiving daily. In addition to the quality of education, I want you to know that our teachers are invested in your child’s well being beyond the classroom.

Also this week, we recognized one of our outstanding faculty members, Dr. Pamela Harman, Science Teacher, as a finalist in the State of Alabama for The President’s Award for Excellence in Math and Science. The State Board of Education will honor her on Thursday, October 10, 2019, in Montgomery. By being a finalist in our state, Dr. Harman is being considered for the National Award.

I attended the Theatre’s Dinner and a Date event on Tuesday evening, and very much enjoyed the dinner and seeing our incredibly talented students perform. I encourage you to come and support our SPHS Theatre at their next production on November 1, 2019, for their Trumbauer One-Act Play. I also attended our Girls Volleyball game and saw our Lady Jags defeat Vestavia High School. If you haven’t seen our Volleyball team play check our SPHS Athletic website for games and times.

Please note, all sophomores and seniors will be involved with state assessments on Tuesday, October 1st. Sophomores will take the preACT test and seniors will take the ACT WorkKeys assessment. Freshmen and Juniors will participate in E-Learning at home. Look for more information in Google classrooms.

Finally, The Hoover City Schools Foundation is hosting three Drug Awareness And Prevention Breakfasts for parents focused on vaping and marijuana use amongst our teens. Parents are encouraged to attend any of the three events to learn about trends, risks, and consequences from law enforcement officers, District Attorneys, prevention specialists, and treatment specialists. The programs will cover everything from prevention to signs and symptoms and how you can intervene appropriately. Please consider attending one of these worthwhile sessions.

As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.

Sincerely,

Peter L. Giangrosso
