Newsletter 10 - 10 April 2019
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians
Throughout the world this Sunday, faithful communities will gather to remember the significance of Jesus’ decision to return to Jerusalem. This was for Jesus, a deliberate choice to enter the Holy City, knowing that this would mark the beginning of his suffering, passion and ultimate death. This Sunday we reflect on this choice which Jesus made, uniting ourselves with him who withheld nothing in his surrender to God. I encourage you to make every effort to attend Mass this Palm Sunday.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week when we celebrate the Easter Triduum. In essence, the Triduum is one great festival that lasts for three days: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday/ Easter Sunday. As with all the great feasts of the Church, the celebration begins at dusk on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. On Good Friday, we gather to remember the Lord’s Passion and Death and finally, on Saturday night, we gather in vigil and hear the amazing news that Jesus Christ is not dead but is risen from the grave. The Triduum liturgy ends with Evening Prayer on Easter day.
Congratulations to our Yr 6 students for leading us to reflect upon the Stations of the Cross earlier this week. Their tableaus and storytelling were powerful in communicating the emotion and significance of Jesus’ last days on earth. Thank you, too, to their teachers and the members of staff who support the students in their portrayal.
With only two days left until the end of term, I extend a very sincere “thank you” to all who have contributed to the life of WCPS throughout the last ten weeks. A successful term depends upon the effort of staff, students, parents, carers and family members to work together. The last two weeks have shown me, as a guest in this community, how united and committed you all are. I especially affirm the staff of WCPS who are a hard-working, talented and generous team. This community is blessed through them.
Finally, thank you for welcoming me into your community during these two weeks. It has been a pleasure to be here. I leave with a very high regard for WCPS and its people.
Wishing you God’s blessing.
Ms Lina Bertolini
Acting Principal

Project Compassion Stories Week
Week 6 - Nguyet from Vietnam
Nguyet is a teenager living with a disability in a small town in Vietnam. She lived the first 14 years of her life isolated at home. Her disability restricted her movements and any chance of going to school.
Around 7% of people in Vietnam are living with a disability. They often have poorer health, fewer education and employment opportunities and higher poverty rates. The future appeared bleak for Nguyet, until a Caritas Australia program, implemented by our partner Catholic Relief Services (CRS) changed her life forever. Around 4,000 people have now benefitted from this inspiring Caritas program.
The program is helping people like Nguyet, by focusing on inclusive education, health services and building strong community networks to help to break down stigma and discrimination for those with disabilities and their families.
Two years after she featured in Project Compassion 2017, Nguyet has built a successful online business selling T-shirts, accessories and home-cooked snacks made by her sister. She is also more confident in communicating with people – and is riding a motorbike she bought from her profits.
Nguyet has great hope and a real commitment to succeed in her future. She hopes her story will inspire others to see what is possible for a person once isolated and unheard.

Gennaro, who is a 38 year old Perth husband and father of three young children has just relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant to survive and so far, he doesn't have a donor on the international bone marrow donor registry. Gennaro's best chance at a match are people of Scottish/Italian heritage but anyone could be a match for him or one of the hundreds of other Australians waiting for a bone marrow donor.
His full story was aired on The Project last night: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=695731254175989
