Elijah Clarke was a funny, smart, and brave man and it is terribly sad he is gone. His bravery and wits have helped us all in so many ways. February 14, 1779, as a Lieutenant Colonel of the militia Clarke led them into a victory at Kettle Creek. He always wanted to be in somehow he couldn't just do nothing so he joined the State Assembly (1781-1790. Then on September 21,1787, as General of the militia he led his men to defeating the Creeks at John creek which is now present day Walton County. Elijah didn't stop there though, he got very mad and impatient with the State Government to bring peace. Elijah always took matters into hit won hands so he made a Independent Republic today. called the Trans-Oconee-Republic. Elijah did that by seizing Creek lands on the Oconee frontier. He did that multiple times he then became involved in plots to invade neighboring Spanish East Florida.
Elijah has one Son named John Clark who was also involved in politics like his father he was Governor of GA from 1819-1823.
