Teacher Feature - Ms. Beck

Working with young children has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I love being able to set the tone for how children will see their academic future. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I have been able to teach kindergarten for the past 15 years! I learn new things from 5 and 6 year olds every year. I believe in multiple intelligences and feel that every child brings something to the table. I feel very lucky to work at McKinley where I know all adults are just as dedicated to the growth of the children.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family at Lake Almanor. We love to kayak, go on walks, and swim at the beach all day long! We also love to just hang out and Bar-B-Que in our backyard.

CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH - Perseverance

Big picture

This month we’re talking about the trait of Perseverance. The dictionary defines it as: “Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” The definition we are using in class is:

Perseverance: the ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way.

A lot of research today is telling us that the highest indicators of success in our kids isn’t just about their grades or their IQ. The number one skill that helps people of all walks of life be successful is GRIT! The ability to persevere in the face of adversity or even failure. Over the course of the month, we will talk about inspiring people who faced many failures before they found success. We will talk about what it means to navigate tough stuff, even when it feels overwhelming or really hard. We will talk about having a Growth Mindset – to see challenges and failure as an opportunity to grow instead of a brick wall.

Let's Keep Everyone Healthy and Our School Open

We are so happy to be able to give parents the choice for in person instruction for their children. Working together we can ensure that schools stay open. We are asking every family to please do the following:

1. Screen your child for symptoms each morning before sending them to school.

2. Keep your child home for at least 3 days if they are not feeling well - sick children should not be at school regardless of the cause of the illness.

3. Keep the lines of communication with the school open - we all want what is best for your child and working together we can accomplish that!
