Lawrence School District Gives Books

Students in grades Pre-K through 11 all received 3 books each for Summer Reading. Our goal is to help add to your home libraries. Please join in on the journey this summer to becoming strong readers. Some of the books were on back order so you will be asked to join us for a Mid-Summer Check-in where you can pick up your books. If you did't get your Summer Reading gift bag you can pick it up then.

Start with a Book is designed to help address summer learning loss. The website provides parents, librarians, youth program leaders, and community groups a wide range of free and low-cost resources to help ensure that kids keep learning.

7 Important Questions to ask Your Child during Story Time



  • What do you think might happen in this story?
  • What word do you think should come next?
  • What was that character’s name again?
  • Which words do you think best describe this character?
  • Does anything in this book seem familiar to you?
  • How might this story be different if it was told from another character’s point of view?
  • Can you make up a different ending to this story?

The Science Behind Fireworks - Cool Science Experiment

Check in Next Week

  • We will take a peek at the books grades 2, 3 & 4 received.
  • We will discuss ways to bring these books to life for them.
  • In the meantime try to read with each other 20 minutes everyday with your beautiful kiddos.
  • Use your Reading Logs - Have them draw a picture of their favorite part & write a sentence to go with it.
  • Students in the upper grades can write a short chapter summary in their Reading Logs
