Walter T. Bergen Bi-Monthly Update
A Look Back at January's Highlights at Walter T. Bergen Middle School:
7th and 8th Grade Gifted and Talented Students Win A Competition!
In their first effort of the school year, our 7th and 8th grade G&T students entered a national competition by Explore Learning. The "Ginerneering" contest involved designing and fabricating a gingerbread house within certain guidelines and restrictions. Our team of students, led by Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Dekeukelaere, were inspired by the James Webb Telescope launch in December. They submitted their creation and received the good news in January. Congratulations to these students and their teachers!! See the photos below.
What a team!

Busy Designing a Winner!
The Winner!
WTB Annual Spelling Bee!
Mrs. Lauren Bober plans and organizes this event for our students to compete in a traditional spelling bee. Many students participated and over 20 made it to the finals on January 13. There is only one champion for all four grades and this year's champion is 8th grader Eoin Glock. Eoin and fellow 8th grader Kaitlin Orozslaney put on a show of orthography! For the first time at WTB they completed the entire list of words without being eliminated. Mrs. Bober and her helper, Mrs. Harvey-Henderson had to go into the supplemental list to challenge these two finalists. Congratulations to Kaitlin and our champion, Eoin! Top performers in the other grades were - Grade 5 Champ - Joseph Careri, Grade 6 Champ - Phebe Kurian and Grade 7 Champ - Neo Ciocoiu.
WTB Boy's and Girl's Basketball
The WTB Boy's and Girl's Basketball teams have experienced a lot of success this year while also showing growth and steady improvement. Most importantly, their conduct on the hardwood during heated competitions has been of championship caliber! They have represented all of us in the right way. Thank you and congratulations to all of the student-athletes and to Coach Lombardi and Coach Conboy. Both teams will compete in the Greater Morris County Junior Scholastic Coaches Association Tournament in late January and early February. The girls are the #2 seed, and the boys are the #6 seed. Good luck to both teams!
