FROM THE SCN LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER:
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Did you know that giving thanks can make you happier and healthier? The practice of thankfulness/gratitude can decrease emotions like stress and anger, while increasing happiness, empathy, self-esteem, and mental strength. Take a few minutes each day to increase your feelings of gratitude by engaging in some of the following suggestions for kindness and self-care. Find more information at Gratitude: The Benefits of Being Thankful
Write a thank-you note: Writing a thank you note to express your gratitude is a great way to let someone know they are appreciated. Keep a gratitude journal: Make it a habit to write down what and who you are grateful for; many who practice this write down their thoughts before going to sleep. Practice mindfulness meditation: Mindfulness is the ability to purposefully pay attention to the present moment; observe your thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad.
A wonderful book to peruse that follows our theme of gratitude is Happiness Is a Choice You Make By John Leland An enduring collection of lessons that emphasizes, above all, the extraordinary influence we wield over the quality of our lives. In 2015, when the award-winning journalist John Leland set out on behalf of The New York Times to meet members of America's fastest-growing age group, he anticipated learning of challenges, of loneliness, and of the deterioration of body, mind, and quality of life. But the elders he met took him in an entirely different direction. Despite disparate backgrounds and circumstances, they each lived with a surprising lightness and contentment. The reality Leland encountered upended contemporary notions of aging, revealing the late stages of life as unexpectedly rich and the elderly as incomparably wise. GoodReads Review

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS UNIVERSITY!
This session will explain the North student registration process and all the available options. Time will be available at the end for any and all questions. This is a great university for ALL North parents/guardians since the process and available options do change; it is especially informative for new North parents/guardians. (And to be realistic, our students do not always share North information at home!)
The North PTO is hosting the meeting, but the entire session will be run by John Peters, Assistant Principal of College and Career Readiness.
Tuesday, December 7, at 6:30 pm in the North LRC (masks are required).
