Happening This Month!
- Monday, 12/23/19-Wednesday, 1/1/20: Winter Holiday Vacation! NO SCHOOL
Dressing Down and Dressing Up For Some Good Causes!
This year, students and staff came to Long Meadow dressed in our pajamas to support CCMC's annual PJ Day for the Kids. This year, Long Meadow collected $713.21 and district-wide, we raised over $3,900! We read in our PJs, wrote code, solved math problems, and even played tag and ate lunch in our pajamas! On Wednesday, December 18, staff dressed in their best holiday sweaters to raise funds for the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped to further these good causes!
Congratulations to the LMES FIre Prevention Poster Winners!
This year, I had the pleasure to join some of our fourth and fifth-grade students as well as their families and teachers at the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department to celebrate their award-winning artwork! Featured in the poster are Pranavi, who took first place for fifth-grade, Alaina who won first place for fourth-grade, and finally Mason who got second place for fourth-grade. Special thanks to Mrs. Tesch and Mr. Vesneski for coming out to cheer on their students! Also in the photo is Mrs. Pellicone, principal at Middlebury Elementary School with her student who earned second place for fifth-grade.
Bringing Reading To Life Through Reader's Theater!
This snapshot was taken while I walked by the cafeteria and happened to see Mrs. Bielert's third-grade class doing a reader's theater. Reader's theater is when students read a dramatic version of a text just like actors in a play, complete with narrators and sometimes sound effects. It teaches reading comprehension and fluency, as well as how to read with expression and how to collaborate with peers to work as a team. This is just one of the many ways we bring books to life at LMES!
How Do We Start Our Day In Kindergarten?
In this picture, students have just completed the pledge of allegiance and are about to sing our national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner. Most students in the lower elementary grade start their day with the pledge and a patriotic song, and all grades perform the pledge as part of the daily announcements. These activities promote musical rhythm and recall of common songs as well as taking pride in our national anthem!
At LMES, We Work Hard and We Play Hard, Too!
We got some snow last week, and a group of upper-elementary students took advantage of the snow in the Gaga Ball pit to work collaboratively and create a snowperson. What a great way to show teamwork while having some good old-fashioned fun!
