How Computers Work
A computer monitor is an electronic device that shows pictures. Monitors often look similar to televisions. The main difference between a monitor and a television is that a monitor does not have a television tuner to change channels. Monitors often have higher display resolution than televisions. A high display resolution makes it easier to see smaller letters and fine graphics. A monitor is often used to plug in a desktop to produce an image.
Cpu
A central processing unit (CPU) is an important part of almost every computer. The CPU sends signals to control the other parts of the computer, almost like how a brain controls a body.The CPU is an electronic machine that works on a list of things to do. It reads the list of instructions and does each one in order. A list of instructions that a CPU can read is a computer program.
Ram (Random-Access Memory)
Random access memory is the memory or information storage in a computer that is used to store running stuff and data for the programs. Data in the RAM can be read and written quickly in any order. Normally, the random access memory is in the form of computer chips.
Motherboard
The motherboard is the main board in a electronic system. It is the most 'central' part of a computer. All of the different parts of the computer are connected to the motherboard. This lets them work together. In most computers, the motherboard is a big green board, but many come in different colours like black, red and yellow.
Touch Screen
A touch screen is a computer screen that can be used without a mouse. You can use your fingers and stylus pen to operate. Touch screen are used tablet computers smartphones and other devices.
Operating Sytem
An operating system (also called an OS) is a piece of software that is needed to run the programs on a computer or a mobile device. The programs that run on an operating system talk to the hardware. For example ios 4 and windows.
Software
Software (often called just software) is made of one or more programs. Sometimes it means one bit of software, or it can mean all the software on a computer, including the applications and the operating system.
