Vygotsky was a psychologist from Belarus who eventually moved to Russia. He was born on November 17, 1896 and received his education from Shaniavskii Moscow City People's University from 1913 - 1917.
Vygotsky's Theory
Vygotsky developed his theory in the 1930's during the last 10 years of his life in Russia. Vygotsky's theory is called the Zone of Proximal Development. The Zone of Proximal Development is the idea that on the lower level of the ZPD spectrum is the child working independently and the higher level of the ZPD spectrum is what the child is able to achieve with the help of a more educated instructor.
