ROYAL NEWS
OLMP CATHOLIC SCHOOL - MARCH 2018
Principal's Message
Lent is a time for us to focus on important practices of our faith: prayer, fasting and works of mercy. During Lent help your children see that prayer is both formal and informal and that God wants to hear from us in many ways; teach them that we can fast from a favourite food or drink, but also from a bad habit or mean spirited action; remind them that works of mercy provides support for those in need and can take the form of money, goods, or time and talent. Lent is about focusing in on how we can be better people and so it is a great teaching tool to help your children grow. As we continue into Lent with the anticipation of celebrating with the Risen Lord, may you and your family enjoy the blessings of this season and experience the happiest of Easters.
Have a blessed and joyful Easter break. “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)

OLMP welcomes Archbishop Emeritus Sylvain Lavoie
On March 5th we had His worship, Arch Bishop Emeritus Sylvain Lavoie visit our school with Father Larry and present on Holy Week. Using several powerful images they engaged all of our students through 2 assemblies. The middle school had some very interesting responses to the questions from the presenters. There were also a few jokes some at Mr. Stacey's expense. The high school students had a separate presentation and were also very engaged. All staff and students appreciate the time taken by our Church leaders to connect with students during this busy Lenten period.

2018-2019 School Calendars
For the 2018-2019 school year, Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) has created the proposed school calendars for both St. Patrick Catholic School and Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Catholic School. The EICS calendar very closely mirrors Battle River School Division (BCSD) calendar which will positively impact families in the following ways for the schools:
School will start after the Labour Day weekend.
November break will still be offered in this EICS calendar.
Busing will now be shared with Battle River School Division Transportation.
Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Catholic School:
The school is moving towards a 4-day student week calendar for a majority of the weeks.
This change will ensure the same start and end times for all students at OLMP and will alleviate scheduling challenges across the school.
Joint transportation between EICS and Battle River School Division will positively impact the level of service provided.
The community of Camrose has responded to ensure that extra curricular programming and activities are available within the community on the days when students are not in school.
St. Patrick’s Catholic School:
St. Patrick’s Catholic School will continue with a 5 day calendar.
The school calendar will now mirror the Battle River Public School district which will be a benefit for those parents with students in both divisions.
Working on the same general calendar dates will enable students to access a wider choice of community led activities on professional development days as agencies can organize these activities for both districts.
The EICS Board of Trustees will be voting on these calendars at the March 21st public meeting. If you would like to share your comments or suggestions, please feel free to email them directly to eicstalks@eics.ab.ca or speak with your school administration.
