A Note from the Principal

Dear SPB Families,

October has arrived although the last few days have felt more like August rather than early fall. Be sure to check communication folders today as important information regarding parent-teacher conferences is enclosed. Conferences will be held in early November, and they are a great opportunity for you to have a conversation with your child's teacher(s) to review current progress, ask questions, and set goals for the remainder of the year. We would like to have all parents attend conferences.

Next week in communication folders, you will find MAP testing results in addition to information about a new online program your child will be using in school called Exact Path. Our teachers attended another training on it this week, and they are excited to begin using it with our students. Be on the lookout for both next week.

Finally, thank you to the parents, extended family, and friends who joined us for our annual Blue Mass on Wednesday. What a great turnout we had, and a number of people commented on how beautifully our students sang and participated in the Mass. Father Lane shared a lovely blessing, and it was great to have safety forces and civic leaders from many different communities join us. It is always a very special day, and it is a powerful reminder to us of the wonderful relationship we have with the Highland Heights Police and Fire Departments.

Blessings,

Diane Raguz, Principal

Blue Mass and Blessing of Safety Forces

On Wednesday, October 2, the Church celebrated the Feast of the Guardian Angels. The students and staff of Saint Paschal Baylon also celebrated our cities' safety forces for their service, care, and protection with a special Blue Mass. During the Mass, Father Lane gave a special blessing to the policemen, firemen, paramedics, and city leaders who were able to join us, including some of our parents, extended family, and friends. Thank you to all of these men and women who serve to protect us each day!

School Uniform Reminders

  • The seasonal uniform period has now ended. Students may no longer wear regular uniform shorts. This policy also includes no shorts on dress down days from now until May 1.
  • Gym uniform: Jogging pants must be worn to and from school from October 1 to May 1. Gym shorts may be worn under the jogging pants.
  • No show socks are not permitted.
  • Please review the Uniform/Dress Code Policy on pages 25-27 of the Parent-Student Handbook.

Walk-a-Thon 2019

Walk-a-Thon 2019 is almost here! In your communication folders this week, you'll find a family permission slip. Please get those completed and returned to the school as soon as possible! One slip per family, and all students are invited to participate in the Walk, regardless of participation in the fundraising.

Also in your oldest child's communication folders, families who turned their packets in by September 9th will find their bonus dress down passes! Please contact Melissa Vogley at melissa.vogley@case.edu if there are any problems with your passes.

Interested in being a library volunteer?

Thank you to the parents who have started helping out in the library! We are still looking for some additional help. Our library volunteers read to students, help students select books, sort and shelve books, etc. It's a wonderful way to get involved. Library volunteers must be Virtus trained and have a current BCII check. If interested, please email Ms. Raguz at draguz@saintpaschal.com . Volunteers are needed on the following days and times:

  • Mondays-10:20-11:20 a.m. (LIbrary/STEM block for 1B-Miss Martinson's class)
  • Tuesdays-9:30-11:00 a.m. (Library for Jr. K and Library/STEM block for 2B-Mrs. Braun's class)
  • Wednesdays (2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th weeks)-8:45-10:15 a.m. (Preschool)
  • Thursdays-9:30-11:40 a.m.(Library/STEM block for 3A-Mrs. Uzzo's class and KA-Ms. Mickol's class)

Playground/Lunchroom Volunteer Sign Ups

Thank you, Grade 7 Parents/Guardians, for signing up for October! Most of the beginning of the month is full, but many days at the end of the month are still waiting for volunteers!

The links for November for Grade 6, and December for Grade 5 can be found below. With the holiday season just ahead, we know that you will want to get the dates that work for your busy schedule!

We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. We are so grateful for the help!

This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.

Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 7, Grade 6, Grade 5.
