Shine Bright with Supt. Rebecca A. Jenkins
Dear District 70 Families:
I am reaching out to emphasize the importance of your participation in the 5Essentials survey. This tool is instrumental in our mission for continuous improvement and excellence in education. As partners in shaping the future of our students, your unique insights and perspectives are invaluable to us.
The 5Essentials survey covers five critical areas essential for our district's growth: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, and Ambitious Instruction. Your thoughtful feedback in these areas is the cornerstone of our efforts to enhance our educational landscape and foster a nurturing environment for our students.
We are currently in the survey period, and we must reach at least 20% participation from parents and guardians across each school to ensure the data we collect is comprehensive and actionable. This threshold is not just a number; it represents a collective voice, your voice, which is pivotal in driving meaningful changes in our schools.
The link to the survey was shared with you in an email on Jan. 30. If you have not yet accessed the survey, we urge you to reach out to your school principal for the link. The process is designed to be straightforward and should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. Moreover, for families with children in multiple schools, we kindly ask that you complete a survey for each school to ensure all your children's educational environments are represented.
Parent and guardian responses are treated with the utmost confidentiality. They serve as a critical feedback loop for us, enabling targeted improvements across our schools. For more detailed information about the survey and its significance, visit the FAQ page.
Your engagement and support are what make our district strong. Together, we can make a profound difference in the educational journey of our students.
Shine Bright,
Rebecca

AIMSwebPlus Student Information (Kindergarten Only)
We are pleased to announce that the kindergarten assessment data collected in January is available for you to view.
Students are screened three times a year: fall, winter and spring. The data collected this past fall is also still available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. We will screen all students one final time in May. Prior to viewing your child’s scores, we recommend reading this informative letter explaining AIMSwebPlus and how it is used. To view your child’s scores, please log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal. If this is your first time in the Parent Portal, please visit: D70 PowerSchool Parent Portal.
Once you have logged in to the Portal, click on the PLS Vault Documents under the Navigation menu. Once on that page, please choose “Assessment” next to the folder drop-down menu to find your child’s AIMSweb reports. There will be a report for Early Literacy and Early Numeracy. Questions can be directed to your child’s classroom teacher, building principal or Kerri Bongle, D70's director of growth and talent.
STAR Information Now Available (1st-8th grades)
Teachers assess student understanding, learning, and growth in a variety of informal and formal ways throughout the school year. D70 uses several assessments that are administered throughout the school year to help students, teachers, and parents better understand strengths and areas that can be targeted for improvement. Most recently students in Grades 1 - 8 took the STAR assessments in reading and math. We hope that these tools will give us more information about all our learners. Please make sure you are using the new PowerSchool link.
Accessing STAR assessment scores:
