The Andover Leos
Is your student looking for a way to get involved at Andover High School? The Andover Leo Club is a student-led volunteer group that works to respond to needs within the community by volunteering their time. The group meets every other Thursday after school at 2:30 and welcomes new members anytime! For more information, please join the Leos’ Google Classroom. For meeting dates and additional information, please click here.
Upcoming Leo Club Projects
As part of the Leo Club’s work to address isolation and loneliness with senior citizens, they will be volunteering at Arbor Oaks Senior Living twice a month. They will be carrying out activities such as teaching technology, spa day, dance classes, art classes, and game night! On their last visit, they made a holiday-themed TikTok with the residents. This week, they will be carrying out a service project to benefit Hope4Youth with the residents.
The Leos are also hard at work planning ways to inform and engage the student body in their global impact project - Caring for Our Community. In an effort to reduce isolation and loneliness and create intergenerational relationships, they will be carrying out the following projects:
Putting together “welcome kits” for Rum River Library to be distributed to residents in a nearby retirement community.
Reading a book on aging and friendship to elementary students and having the students make cards for Arbor Oaks residents.
Creating a Kahoot with statistics and information from the U.S. Surgeon General’s report on Isolation and Loneliness.
Sending notes of gratitude to peers and staff.
Sending notes of kindness to grandparents and/or an older adult in their life.
DROP in for Service!
In an effort to bring the spirit of service to Andover High School, Youth Service will be hosting a variety of fun and meaningful service projects during select late start Mondays. Service projects will take place right here at school; participating students will receive 1 service hour per session. Click here for more details on second-trimester dates, times, and room location. At our January 8th meeting, we made pet toys for the Animal Humane Society. At our next meeting, on January 22nd, we will be putting together Laundry Pod Packs for the United Way.
