Management
1. Incorporates effective proactive management strategies.
- Class Dojo
- Color Counters
- Monetary system
- Sticker Chart
- Incentive Chart
- ROAR notes
- Prize Bucket
Monetary System
At the beginning of the school year I started a monetary reward system. Students were rewarded $1 if they follow directions, completed bellwork and homework. They were rewarded $5 for perfect attendance and return permission slips. They were rewarded $10 for receiving a 100% on a test.
Class Dojo Rewards
Towards the middle of the year we decided to create a grade level behavioral system. As a fourth grade team we started using Class Dojo to award positive behavior. In this picture, you will see a list of rewards students choose from at the end of each month.
Incentive Charts
I use incentive charts for my students who have behavioral plans. My students have a visual to keep track of their goal for the week.
2. Implements corrective management.
Strike System (3 strikes you're out!)
- Strike 1-Verbal Warning
- Strike 2- Fill out Think-it-Through, lose recess/points, & parent phone call
- Strike 3- Meeting with parent, lose recess
Laptop Charging Stations
Fines & Consequences
I try to incorporate my favorite sport, baseball. In baseball, there are 3 strikes and you're out. The consequences are as follow:
-Strike 1=warning
-Strike 2= Lose recess, complete think-it-through sheet, parent phone call
-Strike 3= Parent meeting, Lose recess, behavior plan
Noise Level Color Cups
This corrective management strategy was used in one of my NTI (New Teacher Initiation) professional development. It is a way to manage the noise level in the classroom.
The green cup signifies the volume level is great.
The yellow cup signifies a warning.
The red cup signifies the volume level is too loud.
Think-it-Through Sheets
This is a student reflection form on behavior. Students come in during recess to complete the form. Students list the problem, solutions, consequences, and feelings. Depending on the behavior, we discuss a behavioral plan.
3. Facilitates organization of learning.
- Routines are in place.
- Materials are organized.
- Color coding
- Homework Bins
Labtops location
Students have a diagnosed area for their laptops when entering the classroom. The laptops are separated into groups based on their table's color.
Grammar Notebooks
Notebooks are arranged in groups based on their table's color.
Backpacks Baskets
At the beginning of the year, my students placed their backpacks behind their chair. This caused several behavior issues like consistently going into their backpacks for items or their backpacks were on the floor. I decided to use one of my teammate's idea and use baskets for backpacks.
4. Develops a cooperative learning community.
- Weekly Class Councils
- Encouraging words
class council box
At the beginning of the year we created a class council box during our SFA Getting Along Unit. Students wanted to remain anonymous and write encouraging words to their friends. In the class council box, students wrote encouraging words and problems that they came across during the week.
Encouraging Words pockets
This was another idea I incorporated from a teammate. Each student in the classroom has their own pocket with their name. Throughout the week, students write encouraging words to their peers. At the beginning of each Class Council a student is chosen to read ALL the encouraging words.
Class Council
Each week, after lunch we have Class Council. Class council gives the opportunity for students to discuss what went well and what we need to work on as a class. Students set the goal for the following the week.
