Week of December 7th - 11th, 2020
This Week at Academy of St. Benedict
Week 2 of e-learning begins on Monday. While we had some bumps along the way last week, there were far more successes! Attendance was excellent. Zoom expectations, for most, were met. Please be sure that your child is sitting at a table, desk or another area where they can focus on their work. The 8AM - 3PM time is school and work time. Teachers have built breaks and lunch into each day. Students must be on their Zoom calls, participating as directed by the class schedules.
We are excited to be offering the full curricular program, including Spanish, art and PE for students. We know that these "special" classes are a nice opportunity for students. Title 1 has sent schedules and Zoom links. Please be certain your child is attending these small group sessions!
The weekly update will continue throughout the e-learning period. Join me on the school's Facebook page at 8AM each school morning for prayer and announcements. On Tuesday at 10AM, I am doing a very special Facebook Live Story Time reading Santa Mouse and making a handprint Santa! Construction paper, cotton balls, glue, scissors and crayons are needed for the craft! Please "share" the event on your Facebook page! This is open to everyone!
Today begins the second week of Advent. During Advent we wait and prepare for the birth of Jesus. At school, we would continue to encourage acts of kindness as we wait. Please continue to encourage acts of kindness at home. Attached is an image with 25 days of Bible verses to prepare. This site offers a view at some amazing paper nativity scenes. Take a few minutes to look at them with your child. Many different cultures are represented. One of my favorite parts is of the postage stamps. What images did you and your family enjoy?
As you look to the building reopening on January 19, 2021, please make plans to not send students to school in any part of the orange PE uniform. It was retired two years ago. All students should be in their light blue PE uniforms on the appropriate days. The crew neck sweatshirt can be worn over the polo on cold days. Also, students must be in uniform every day. We have the polo shirts in the school building available for $10/each. Martinellis on 95th in Evergreen Park sells the gym uniform.
In returning to the school building date of January 19, please remember that students who have traveled must have a 2 week quarantine period before returning to the building. That means families must be back in Illinois by January 4th to return to the our building on the 19th. The list of states to which this applies is here.
Make a 2021 Resolution: Getting to school on-time! Tardiness disrupts the day for all students.
While the building remains closed, we are available.
At any point, if you have a question reach out to me or Ms. Murphy. We are always available via email. We also can be reached on the school phone 773-776-3316.
Please call the office number between 6:30 AM- 4:00 PM if you have any questions or concerns.
