Guided math is a great instructional strategy. Everybody wants to do it, but how? In this engaging, educational and resource-filled institute, teachers will learn how to do it! They will see how to create standards-based (teks aligned) small group lessons that rock, workshop management strategies that work, and assessment tools that inform instruction! Dr. Nicki will teach about managing flexible groups, matching activities to students, incorporating the 4 must have workstations and using technology throughout the workshop. Each participant receives the book Guided Math in Action and a dice-in-action kit!

Dr. Nicki Newton
Dr. Nicki Newton has been an educator for more than 25 years, working in inner-city schools on both the East and West Coasts, with student populations ranging from pre-kindergarteners through doctoral students. Having spent the first part of her career as a literacy and social studies bilingual specialist, she built on those frameworks to inform her math work. She has worked on developing Math Workshop and Guided Math Institutes around the country and internationally. Dr. Nicki works with teachers, coaches, and administrators to make math come alive by considering the powerful impact of an academically rigorous, standards-based, hands-on, minds-on approach to their math curriculum. She is the author of Guided Math in Action (2013), Math Workshop in Action (2015) and Math Running Records in Action (2015). She is currently writing Math Workstations in Action (2016). She has also written a series entitled Problem Solving with Math Models for grades K-5. Dr. Nicki is an avid blogger (www .guidemath .wordpress .com) and Pinterest pinner (drnicki7).
