What Do You Know About Islam?

Muslim Beliefs

Muslims are the people who follow the Islam religion, but you have to follow the religion very precisely along with following the five pillars of faith. Muhammad started the religion of Islam. He was sent from the angel Gabriel to be a prophet for Allah. The religion of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all share the same common figure, Abraham. All three of these religions also believe that there is only one God, which is called monotheism. Muslims also believe in following the five pillars. These are things that they must perform to stay a Muslim. These laws are declaration of faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime. They must pray 5 times a day in the mosque facing Mecca. Fasting is when they can only eat before sunrise and after sunset. The most common time to fast for Muslims is during the month of Ramadan. This is also considered a holiday celebrating Allah giving Muhammad the message. Another holiday is the Eid al Fitr which celebrates the end of Ramadan. People celebrate it with gifts, food, family, and thanks. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. So, many people study the Koran, which is their holy book. They often study or bring the Torah when they go to pray at the mosque. Another common holy place for Muslims is the Dome of rock in Jerusalem. The most known is the city of Mecca, which they must face when they pray in the mosque. The prayer leader is called the Imam, and the teacher is the Mullah. People know that it is time to pray when the Muezzin goes off, but now it is usually just a loudspeaker.
