Monday's Call to Action: Oppose Vouchers & Charter School Expansion
Dear MoASSP Advocate,
Using the pulling on the same side of the rope as a symbol of our unified voice, coordinated action of many people on the same side of the rope is a must today as we oppose SB 160 (voucher tax credit proposal) and SB 292 (charter school expansion).
For the past several weeks, we have warned MoASSP Advocates that Senate Bill 160, a voucher tax credit proposal; and Senate Bill 292, a charter school expansion proposal, were on the Senate calendar and ready for debate. And, despite a belief that they would come to the floor during that time, neither did.
We have been informed that there was a substantial likelihood that either SB 160 or SB 292 would be brought to the Senate floor for debate this week. Senator Caleb Rowden (R - Columbia), the Majority Floor Leader of the Senate, affirmed that either voucher tax credits or charter expansion would be debated this week.
Time is of the essence. If you have already spoken with or written your senator(s) regarding these bills, we need for you to connect once again. It is vitally important that our MoASSP Advocates continue to follow-up with their senator(s) even after they have voiced opposition. Make sure your senator(s) understand that you are paying attention and that these issues are important to you, your students, your staff and your community.
We need for you to contact your Senator today and encourage them to oppose SB 160 and SB 292. Send an email to your Senator with one simple click. If you are on Twitter, connect with your Senator by sending a tweet. We have preloaded several different tweets for you to use. Lastly, phone calls to Senate offices is also a proven strategy to send a strong message.
"Success comes when we all pull together."
Respectfully,
