The Lobello Letter
Stay up to date with what is happening in room 4.
What a week...
We have had a busy week in Room 4, spring break already seems like a distant memory. In math this week we continued working on geometry. In reading we started working on comparing and contrasting characters and stories (this is a great thing to talk about at night when you are reading with your child). We also started talking about adjectives and we did some great writing about our spring breaks.
New homework starting next week.
Next week we will begin using the app scootpad for homework. On Monday I will assign math and reading homework for the week, 4 practices for each area. Students will login and complete one math and one reading practice each night. One practice will be no more than twenty questions. All of the questions are aligned to the common core and give me a very detailed report for each student. This should not increase the amount of time students are spending on homework. If you feel your child is spending a longer amount of time completing homework please let me know right away.
We have been practicing the log in method all week and completing the practices in school and the students are doing a great job wit this. There might be a few hiccups next week so there will be no consequences next week for incomplete homework. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
There is a reading log option with this app. I will allow students to explore with this next week so we can see what we think. The paper reading logs will still continue to come home until we have a better idea of how it works!
The One and Only Ivan
This week we started reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate as our read aloud. This is the 2013 Newbery Medal Winner. To learn more you can visit the website http://theoneandonlyivan.com/

This is the new format for my newletters/blog/updates. I will be sending you the link for this flyer so you can access the information without going to our class website. I will then be saving the link on the classroom website under Lobello's Letters so you can always access past information.
