Charger Check-In
Thursday, April 9, 2020
A Note from Ms. Owens
As we enter this Holy Week, it will likely feel quite different from those of years past. We won't be gathering in church for our Vigils, Stations, Blessings or Easter Mass; we won't be with extended family around the table to share a meal; and we won't be having Easter egg hunts with neighbors. However, we can still experience Holy Week and Easter. I wonder if it may be more memorable or more meaningful since it will be so different from what we expect.
Both Fr. Dennis and Fr. Nick will be celebrating all the Triduum liturgies and the liturgies will be available live on the parish Facebook page and available for later viewing via the church website. The Mass of the Lord's Supper will be streamed at 7PM tonight. Links to the church's Facebook page and parish website are below. We've also included some Holy Week and Easter activities further down in the Check-In.
I am so very happy to share that Mr. Caffee has been released from the hospital and is continuing his recovery at home. This is another reason for our community to give thanks.
Several SCA families have contacted Mrs. Kehoe and me about donating bleach wipes to local hospitals, police departments and fire departments. Last week, Mrs. Kehoe dropped off two boxes of bleach wipes and medical supplies to Christ Hospital. Since then, several teachers asked that we donate additional wipes that are in their classrooms. This afternoon, Miss Soch gathered up those supplies and delivered them to Christ Hospital, the fire department and police department. Thank you for your support and encouragement in this effort.
Last week, I sent out information for families facing financial hardship during this crisis. I've linked that letter in one of the buttons below.
And now for some quick but, important, news...
- If your family is interested in hosting Morning Announcements and Prayers, please sign up at the button below. While we won't have announcements and prayers during Spring Break, they will resume on Monday, April 20.
- Spring Break has arrived. Mrs. Kehoe and I are putting our heads together (from our own homes) to come up with some activities we can host during the break from classes. We plan to share that out after Easter.
- The Dream Raffle is still up and running. If you'd like to purchase a ticket, please click on the button below.
- The Spring 2020 edition of The Charger Chatter, our student newspaper, was finished just before we left school. The link to our students' work is available below. Please check it out and congratulate our journalists.
Please continue to pray for one another as well as all those people on the front line during this crisis. Have a blessed and joyful Easter. Stay safe and stay healthy.
Peace,
Kristine Owens
Online Safety
Additionally, you may have heard about the new Zoombombing phenomenon happening as many more adults and students are working from home. Our teachers have been using the security features available with Zoom - waiting rooms, passwords, locking meetings, etc. - to ensure safety. I will be sharing more details when we return from Easter Break.
SCA Athletic Association Updates
Soccer and Boys Volleyball
SCA Athletics will continue to observe and follow what's happening at the the Federal, State, and School levels around guidelines for social distancing. At this time, none of the Boys Volleyball or Soccer leagues we belong to are canceling their seasons. Therefore, we will continue to "wait and see" what happens with the Leagues and the School. If and when Leagues are canceled, we will determine the best solution to refunds or credits depending on the student / family situation.
Girls Volleyball Uniforms
Please just hold on to them for now. We'll coordinate a pick up when the situation clears up.
2020-2021 Football, Cheerleading, and Girls Basketball Sign-Ups
We are putting together a Google Form to handle all Registrations going forward. Please watch for a link to the form in future SCA emails. We are looking into other ways to collect fees as well. We will want to take on sign-ups this Spring and collect fees as soon as we can.
2019-2020 Sports Banquet
The 8th Grade Sports Banquet event on May 5th has been canceled. We are, however, going to order trophies and t-shirts, and we will hand out our annual two Charger Awards. We are looking at how to distribute these items as potentially a part of other events, when events resume later this Spring or Summer.
If you have any questions about SCA Athletics, please reach out to Greg Heidorn via email greg.heidorn@gmail.com or phone/text 708-954-6727.
