OMS Traffic Loop
- All cars enter the loop through the south entrance. The north entrance is reserved for buses.
- Cars must pull down the front lane in front of school as far as possible to allow as many cars to stop and let riders out at one time.
- NO LEFT TURNS when light is flashing! Overland Park Police Department officers monitor this periodically.
- Students must exit cars in front of the school. We have seen cars waiting on Switzer and students running through the car line while cars are driving. PLEASE MAKE SURE STUDENTS ALL ENTER CARS AND EXIT CARS IN THE CAR LINE CLOSEST TO THE BUILDING.
Thank you for your support of our traffic procedures to keep our students and staff members safe.
OMS is a Title I Building
Dear OMS Families:
Oxford Middle School has been identified as an official Title I school, based on the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch benefits. Title I is a federal program where select schools receive targeted funds to provide additional reading support.
Federal guidelines mandate that Title I schools provide parents with a “right to know.” As a parent, you have the right to know information regarding qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers. This information can be found at https://appspublic.ksde.org/TLL/SearchLicense.aspx.
As a parent, you also have the right to view both district and building report cards, which can be found by going to www.bluevalleyk12.org, scrolling down to “District Quick Links” and selecting “Accountability Reports.” Parents also have the right to request access to students’ state assessment scores. Generally, these are mailed home towards the end of the school year.
Thank you,
Courtney Domoney
Principal, Oxford Middle
Securly at Home
Your child’s online safety, in the palm of your hand. The time to take action is now. We recognize that student safety and well-being in the online world is a shared responsibility between our schools and families, and with Securly - the district’s cloud-based filtering system - taking an active role in your child’s online safety has never been easier.

High School Game Atmosphere
Blue Valley families,
We are excited to have your families come to support our high school activities and athletics. It is great to see the entire community at these events. It is imperative that our parent community partner with us as we work to encourage positive elementary and middle school behavior at high school games or events.
We are asking that all elementary and middle school students enter the game with an adult and sit with that adult throughout the game. Please do not drop your child off at a district event without supervision as they will not be allowed to enter. It is challenging to monitor and keep all students safe without the help of our parent community. Thanks for your help with this protocol to make district events a great experience for all who attend. We hope to see your family cheering for our Blue Valley teams this school year.
Matt Ortman
Director of School Administration, Athletics and Activities
Blue Valley School District
Social Worker Resources
Our social worker Ms. Jayne assembles community resources and makes them available to the Oxford community. Please visit the Social Worker Resource page on the OMS website.
Chromebooks – Same Case and 100% Charge Needed
OMS families, every student has a chromebook assigned to them and has been issued a black padded case. All the cases for all 3 grades are identical in appearance. We suggest putting a key ring or luggage tag on your student’s chromebook case to make it stand out from the other black cases.
Chromebooks need to be taken home, charged, and brought to school each day with 100% charge. This is especially important as MAP testing has begun.
Volunteers Needed to Assist Nurse Piper
Nurse Piper is in need of 6 volunteers to assist with the OMS Hearing and Vision screenings for all 7th grade students. Can you help from 7:30am - 10:00am? Thank you!!
Girls Who Code
You are invited to an informational meeting for “Girls Who Code” teaching girls to use computer science to impact their community and join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. The meeting will take place at the CAPS building Monday August 29 from 3:45 - 5:00pm
MAP Testing Begins
Next week the 7th and 8th grade students will be MAP testing. Students must have their chromebooks each day and the devices must be fully charged. Please ensure your students are at school on-time and that they stay the full day. Students who are absent will have a make-up day in early September.
7th Grade MAP Testing: Tuesday August 30 & Wednesday August 31
8th Grade MAP Testing: Monday August 29 through Thursday September 1
Student Afternoon Arrangements
Families, please make your afternoon going home arrangements with your child before they come to school. We understand that emergencies happen but we are unable to pull students from class every day to tell them how they are getting home. We want everyone to get home safely and thank you for your cooperation.

Safety and security for the 2022-23 school year
As we look forward to another school year, we know that safety and security is top of mind for students, staff and families. Making sure our school is as safe as possible during the school day is a responsibility we take seriously.
We want to remind families of the layered security measures and practices we have in place at Oxford to protect what we value most - our students and staff.
Secured school schools: All schools all secured throughout the school day with buzz-in entry systems and pinch-points at the front entrance.
Visitors: All visitors are required to utilize the buzz-in system during the school day. Visitors are asked to show a government issued ID and state the purpose of their visit.
Campus officers: Blue Valley’s campus police officers and SROs focus on building relationships within school communities to provide safe environments for students at school and at school-sponsored events.
Physical safety measures: Blue Valley has implemented a system of safety measures in our schools that include but are not limited to security cameras, controlled access systems and intruder resistant glass.
Classroom thumb-turn door locks: Bond 2020 provided funding to outfit all classroom doors with interior thumb-turn locks with visual “locked” and “unlocked” indicators.
Emergency drills: Throughout the year, students and staff participate in a variety of emergency and lockdown drills.
Paid food delivery services: We do not accept food arriving from paid delivery services during the school day. Food delivery services must be signed for which creates a disruption to the learning environment and poses potential security concerns. Orders arriving from food delivery services will be refused this school year.
Providing a safe and secure school is a conversation that has no end. Our safety and security team is always researching, exploring and collaborating with local jurisdictions and national experts on how to keep everyone safe and secure during the school day.
At OMS safety is a shared responsibility and each member of our school community plays an important role in being attentive and reporting concerning behaviors. If you see something, say something.
As always, thank you for partnering with us and supporting our commitment to safety and security beginning with the first day of school. More information about safety and security in Blue Valley is available on the district’s website.
CANVAS INFO FOR FAMILIES
Attn BV families! Do you need a refresher on Canvas, (our learning management system for grades K-12), or are you looking to set up a new account? We’ve got you covered! Check out how to access or set up your Canvas Observer account as a parent, or review this Canvas Parent/Guardian Orientation. Remember, Canvas courses won’t appear until teachers publish them after the school year has started.
22-23 Yearbook Information
Please purchase your 22-23 yearbook as you pay fees for the coming school year. Yearbooks MUST be ordered in advance and extra copies are not available at the end of the year. Families may purchase yearbooks by logging into ParentVue and going to the Fee page. The yearbook will be listed under “Optional Fees” and will show as “YRBOOK Yearbook 22-23 OMS”. Yearbook orders will close in January 2023 and additional orders will not be taken. Please avoid end of the year tears and confusion and order today.
If you have multiple children at Oxford and are ordering a yearbook for each of them, please purchase one yearbook separately in each student's account (not 2 yearbooks in one student's account). Yearbooks are passed out on the last day of school in class and if a sibling has one child's yearbook it cannot be signed by friends.
OMS PTO in 2022-2023
The OMS PTO has been able to do some amazing things this year and it is all because of you, the Oxford community! We want to continue this partnership with our Oxford families by offering two types of PTO memberships for the 22-23 school year.
Our Foundation Membership is free and will keep you connected to our upcoming student events and PTO news. Our Contributing Membership is $25 and will help fund staff grants and our fun student events. You can choose one of the two by registering your family on our PTO website.
We are also looking for board and committee members. Click here to see how you can volunteer!
