In this packed place where many people would gather and was one of the first early civilizations, cities like Nippur and Urik were one of the more popular ones.

Even though in todays time where we live, we don't have kings, but back then Mesopotamia was ruled by Kings! Many of the societies laws and rules were also decided by the all mighty King.

Believing that the world was flat and heaven was at the top, they believed in many gods being polytheistic and Enil being the highest God.

About the Displays:

When you come visit the museum you will be able to see the hierarchy system they had. Slaves at the bottom of the latter and the ruling kings at the top. There are many art pieces that show how the slaves are serving their king.

Being the first to write in order to communicate with each other there are many scripts and pictograms expressing their crops, daily life, and astronomy.

Their art was considered to be very elaborate and sophisticated during their time. The higher the person in society, the taller and more exquisite their sculptures were sculptated.

China

Background Information:

The Shang Dynasty encompassed the North China Plain. The succeeding kings moved the capital several times before finally settling in Anyang in 14th BC.

The capital of the Zhou dynasty is near present day Xi’an, near the Yellow River. The Zhou people lived in the Shaanxi Province, west of the Shang people. The king appointed governors to different parts of his empire to manage in his stead. After the assimilation of Shang into Zhou, the empire split into states each ruled by a feudal lord, with the emperor still possessing the most power. The society was a hierarchy. The king was the highest in social class, the second being the nobles/aristocrats. There was also the “peasants”, the average citizen class.

The religion of those dynasties was a polytheistic one; all the gods were led by a head deity called Huang Di.

About the Displays:

The Bronze Age began in 2000 B.C. The Shang people mastered the art of creating bronze items through a method called piece mold casting. Bronze became a status symbol associated with wealth and power due to being used to make weapons, chariots, and ritual vessels, rituals being an important part of their culture.

The Shang Dynasty has archaeological evidence indicating that, on oracle bones, people inscribed the prophecies that they saw on the cracks. This is the first known instance of Chinese writing. The writing was also inscribed on bronze objects. The original writing were a form of pictographs. There are many different art pieces that represent the culture of the different groups.

Being ruled by Pharoah, there were many rules and regulations to be followed in these parameters. Again the servants and slaves were considered the lower class serving the the higher class in which Pharoah had most power, and was at the top of the scale.
