Estuaries by Jason Harris
About Pamlico Sound
Pamlico Sound is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of North Carolina. Some plants and animals found in Pamlico Sound include blue crab, red drum, oysters, SAV (submerged aquatic vegetation), and shellfish. Three waterways that feed into the Pamlico sound are the Neuse, Tar, and Pamlico Rivers.
Estuaries are important because they provide us with many goods and services and provide many plants and animals with vital habitats. Threats to North Carolina estuaries include changes to the surrounding land of the estuaries and contamination of rivers and ocean waters.
