RMS Wildcat Weekly
September 20, 2019 Information for our Families
Happy Friday!
First, thank you so much to all of you who joined me for Coffee with the Principal this past Wednesday! We had a great turnout and enjoyed the conversations.
Thank you also to all who submitted nominations for SSC and who voted. Our two elected parent representatives will be Captain Timothy Otto and Tabitha Wilson. They are joined by Oscar Gomez, who is completing his second year as a representative on the council. We appreciate the amazing support we receive from our families!
Please vote for THREE students to serve as representatives on our School Site Council. RMS needs 3 students that would like to be a part of the School Site Council (SSC). The SSC is a team of Administrators, Teachers, Parents, and Students that review and set goals for our campus, approve budget expenditures, and oversee the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Students who are interested would need to commit to attend 5 meetings throughout the school year from 3:30 - 5:00 after school. Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 25. We need students to participate as they bring important perspectives about their experiences at the school.
General News:
Thank you to our counselors, staff, and students for showing support for Yellow Ribbon Week!
Roosevelt's Welcome Back Dance will be Friday, October 4th in the MPR from 3:15-5:15pm. Tickets will be on pre-sale starting Monday 09/23 at $6 and will go up to regular price of $8 from Monday, September 30th to Thursday, October 3rd. Entrance tickets are not sold the day of the dance. Remember that if your student has an ASB stamp they do not have to purchase a ticket to get into the dance. If your student has not purchased the ASB stamp yet and is interested, you may purchase them through our webstore or in the office with Ms. Maya or Ms. Martha.
Roosevelt has 19 clubs that take place during lunch and after school. Most of our clubs are open and students can show up to any meeting. For a list of clubs being offered this year CLICK HERE. If there is a club your student wants to start that we don’t already have, they can come get an application from the counseling office.
If you notice that your student could use a little extra help, our B.L.A.S.T. (Boost Learning After School Tutoring) is now open! B.L.A.S.T. aims to help students succeed in their classes in a fun and supportive environment after school. There is a maximum of 35 students allowed per classroom, so come on over after school before spots will up! Tutoring takes place 3:15pm - 4:15pm. Click here to take a look at the BLAST schedule.
Our award-winning Wildcat yearbook staff is currently taking pre-orders for the 2019-2020 yearbook at 20% off the end-of-the-year price! Support our school by purchasing a yearbook through the front office, our RMS webstore, or www.jostens.com! Click here to see our flyer
Counseling: On October 25th Cal State San Marcos will be hosting a free 1-day Youth Caregiver Retreat on the CSUSM campus! Youth caregivers are middle-school and high school students who are providing assistance to a sibling, parent or grandparent because of a physical or mental health problem. If your student is interested in attending please email your counselor.
Health Office: It's hot out there! The Health Office would like to remind parents to send a refillable water bottle with their student daily. Please help us keep your student healthy and hydrated while on campus.
Safety Reminder: Parents, please remind your students to use the crosswalk when arriving or leaving school. The heavy traffic makes it unsafe for students because drivers may not see them as they cross the street.
