2nd Grade @ ROE
#AdventureAwaits
Week of : March 16-March 20
Welcome
We are so excited for all of our new friends that have joined us in 2nd grade! This year is going to be filled with lots of fun adventures and laughter. We invite you to join us on our adventure of positive energy! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Here are a few activities your student can do while we are on an extended break
Education Galaxy- This website is good for reading and math. Students can click on (My diagnostics) -pick reading or math and then click on the little colorful towers. It will show them the skills they need to work on. Then they go to the tab that says (My study plan) and they will pick a skill that they need to work on. It will pull up games that they can play to work on the skill.
Xtra Math- this will work on fact fluency.
Brain Pop- educational videos, quizzes and activities.

Storyline Online-this is a free website that has several stories available that are read to them. This would be great to listen to and then ask them comprehension questions over the story.
Place Value War- Take a deck of cards and split the deck between the players. Each player will place 3 cards down and will say their number and whoever has the highest number gets the cards. Keep playing until one player has all of the cards.
Continue reviewing over previously learned concepts.
Addition and subtraction up to 3 digit numbers.
-incorporate using dice and have the student roll 3 numbers for their first 3 digit number and then 3 more for their second 2 digit number and either add or subtract their two numbers.
Addition and subtraction word problems.
*it might be fun for them to also make up their own word problems and then solve them.
Read books at home and then ask comprehension questions
Reading activities:
-Identify the characters, setting, problem and solution
-Complete a BME- Students can use complete sentences to write what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story in their own words. Draw pictures with it.
-Illustrate their favorite part of the story
-Read the story to them and then have them draw what they visualized while you were reading.
-Have students share out or write any connections they had while reading the story
-EX- This story made me think of... When the story said this I thought of this
Writing
-Please practice working on nice handwriting
-Write a letter to a friend or family member, write a letter to your teacher and take a picture and send it to your child's teacher.
-Practice spelling- Dictate sentences to your student and have them write it out, check for proper sentence structure (capitalization, punctuation, and no random capital letters in the middle of sentences and proper spelling)
Write about how to make something (their favorite meal, snack, slime)
Write about something they did over spring break
Write about a time they will never forget
Write how to play their favorite game
Ba-da-bing writing
The student shares what their feet were doing, what they saw and what they thought.
Ex- As I walked into the kitchen I noticed my mom making dinner and thought I hope we are having spaghetti tonight.
As I strapped myself into the ride at six flags I glanced up at the big drop ahead and thought oh no what have I gotten myself into.
Order your year book today, these will be a great reminder of their wonderful year in 2nd grade!
