The Manning Weekly Update
September 12, 2022
Principal's Message
Hello Manning Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Here are a couple items for you...
*We had to go on "secure" status on Wednesday of last week because of police activity in the area. Our students and staff did a great job.
*Please remind your child to be a good neighbor to our local Starbucks. Many of our students head over to Starbucks after school on Friday and we have had reports of disrespect, vandalism and theft. We are working with the managers, as well as our PTA to make sure we keep this relationship a positive one!
*Students no longer need a pass if they need to come in to school at 7:50 am for "tutor time" at Manning.
Thanks for your support! Mike Collins, Principal

STEM Club 2022: Future Cities
Calling all students who would love to make the world a better place! This year’s STEM Club will be designing Future Cities! Students will be working to design innovative and sustainable cities of the future as part of the Future Cities program. Students will be able to choose to do this work as part of a competition against other schools, or without competing. STEM Club will meet in Ms. Maud’s room, W107 every Wednesday from 3:30 - 4:30pm and will be led by Ms. Maud and Ms. Schwindt. Our first meeting will be this week, September 14 and we will continue our work through January. For more information, email Ms. Maud or Ms. Schwindt, and feel free to learn more about the program at https://futurecity.org/. See you there!
Weekly Achievement begins Friday, Sept. 16th
Weekly Achievement is an opportunity for any student that has a "F" in a class to repair their grade. Achievement is a requirement at Manning. Parents cannot call in to excuse their student from Achievement time. If a student does not attend their required Achievement time, they will be required to attend the next scheduled Detention (Thursdays 3:30-4:15) and next scheduled Achievement time.
Please review the Manning Achievement Time document to familiarize yourself with the process.
Monday, September 12th will be the first official Achievement week, and an email will be sent on this day if your student has a D or F in a class.
We suggest checking your student(s) grades in Campus Parent Portal frequently, so you and your student(s) can discuss options before achievement occurs.
Jeffco Athletic/Activity Pass
The Jeffco Activity Pass cost is $60.00 and it includes entry to all REGULAR season high school sporting events at all of our Jeffco Facilities (stadiums & home school sites).
Playoff Events are NOT included. Please contact Jade Zentz at Jade.Zentz@Jeffco.k12.co.us to pay and get your pass.
NASA HUNCH to pilot at Manning!
We are excited and honored to announce (many of you have heard) that the Manning School of the Academics and Arts has been selected to pilot the NASA HUNCH program to middle school students. This is a program that has been operating in high schools, including several in Jeffco, for two decades. Our STEAM 3 students will be working for NASA on selected projects to design and create new products that have been requested by NASA engineers and astronauts. Our teams will compete with their designed products at the high school level, and if selected could have their products sent to the International Space Station or the new lunar base that will be part of the Artemis program.
Students who complete this will be able to carry it with them to their college applications and beyond.
We will make arrangements to showcase the student’s work in the spring semester.
If you would like to learn more about the program, visit https://nasahunch.com/ or contact Ms. Maud or Ms. Yocum.

PTA Happenings
UPCOMING EVENTS
Restaurant Night | September 21
Manning continues to strive to lessen the dinner burden for you. Join us at Bob’s Atomic Burgers (1310 Ford St in Golden) 11am-9pm on September 21. Bob’s will give Manning 15% of sales all day. No flyer needed - just show up, mention Manning and enjoy a delicious burger prepared for you!
Fall Fest | October 28
After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, our PTA is once again hosting its Fall Festival and Silent Auction to benefit our school. This year’s event will be held on Friday, October 28th with the Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction at Applewood Golf Course and the Halloween Dance at the school. You can contribute to this event by donating an item or service for our silent auction or sponsoring the event itself. Fundraising from previous Fall Festivals enabled the PTA to raise money to purchase textbooks, novels, microscopes, electronic scales, LCD Projectors, SMART Boards, computers and numerous other items for our classrooms. Donating is easy; complete this Auction Donation Form before October 14th, 2022.
Reflections Art Competition | December 12 deadline
Art takes time. Monet grew his gardens before he painted them. Now is the time for your creative child to get started on their Reflections entry! This year’s theme is Show Your Voice and we cannot wait to see all those voices in action! They can enter in one or multiple of these categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Entries will be judged at Manning and winners will move onto the JeffCo competition. Love the idea, but not sure where to start? Learn more here.

Memo from Jeffco’s Health Services Team
We will no longer be posting school-level COVID-19 case numbers and we encourage parents and staff to refer to the CDC's COVID-19 Community Level tool to help determine personal prevention measures for themselves and their family. Should the CDC COVID-19 Community Level be raised to level RED, Jeffco Public Schools will continue to work with Jefferson County Public Health and CDPHE regarding any potential updates to our protocols and guidelines.
Positive Test = Isolate at home for 5 days; may return to school days 6-10 with masking strongly recommended.
Return to school only if fever free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication, and if symptoms are improving.
