BSMS News to Know
NOVEMBER 2020
Principal's Message
As communicated, PE(5-8) and Health(6-8) are virtual courses this year. All students are required to log into ONE Zoom session for PE and submit a choice based activity each week. If a student is unable to attend the Zoom session, please have them notify their PE teacher. Students in grades 6-8 are also assigned a Health course. Students should be logging into this course weekly to view the assignment for the week. By participating in the courses virtually, students are able to participate in more face to face instruction in core academic classes.
I strongly encourage parents to be actively checking Sapphire and Canvas Parent Portals. It takes a village and logging in once or twice a week with your child to review assignments would be very helpful. We are all learning to navigate the changes to the school year and some new routines may be needed as a result.
This month is going to go very fast! We are hoping for a healthy start to the holiday season!
Mrs. Shannon Myers

MENU'S
As many of you know legislation was passed to allow all schools to serve meals at no charge for the 20/21 School year.
Many Families that utilize the free/reduced program know that any free/reduced status carries over to the first 30 days of the new school year, giving families time to reapply for a new year. If a new application is not submitted within the first 30 days of the new school year, families free/reduced status reverts back to full pay. While this will have no effect on families during the 20/21 school year, it will have an effect on the first 30 days of the 21/22 school year.
October 14, 2020, marked that 30 cut off, which means families that have not submitted a new application for this year will be changed back to full pay. Families will receive an email stating their status change.
In looking to the future, 21/22 school year, if you haven’t done so already please take a few minutes to log into www.schoolcafe.com and fill out an online application. Paper applications are available upon request.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Judy Sterling, Director of Food Services, at 717-528-4113 Ext 2780, or at jsterling@bermudian.org

ATTENDANCE / FAMILY TRIPS
- Absence excuses should be submitted within and no later than 5 school days from the date of the absence, either online, by email, or brought to school and turned in to their HR teacher. Medical excuses are best when applicable.
- 1-2 day family trips require a written request submitted to MS administration for approval ahead of time.
- 3 or more day family trips require submission of an Educational Trip form to MS administration for approval ahead of time.
Educational/Family Trips
A total accumulation of 10 excused family trips for the school year is now the limit allowed per student. Any additional days will not be approved.
When calculating your days out, please include your Virtual days.
Absence Notes
On our website you can now submit an excuse for your student's absence(s) and/or early dismissal by going to Our School, Middle School, Helpful Links, Absence Tardiness & Early Dismissal Excuse. The form will go directly to the office staff's emails, who will reply that your email has been received.
