GOALS AND POINTS
Most books in our school library have an AR test available. Those books are marked to show they have a test. Ask your librarian for more details.
Each book has a point value which is the maximum number of points that can be earned from that book if they student scores a 100% on the quiz.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO ANSWER EVERY QUESTION CORRECTLY TO GET POINTS?
WHAT ARE GRADE LEVEL GOALS?
****Starting in November, students in 1st grade must maintain a test average of 80% and in grades 2nd - 4th a test average of 85% in addition to monthly point goals to fully meet goal their individual goals. ****
Kindergarten
Bronze: 2 - 3 bookcharms, Silver: 4-6 bookcharms, Gold: 7 or more bookcharms
First Grade
Bronze: 8 points + Ready Reader, Silver: 12 points + Ready Reader, Gold: 16 points + Independent Reader, Platinum: 32 points + Independent Reader, Diamond: 64 points + Independent Reader
Second Grade
Bronze: 16 points + Independent Reader, Silver: 24 points + Rising Reader, Gold: 32 points + Super Reader, Platinum: 64 points + Super Reader, Diamond: 96 points + Super Reader
Third Grade
Bronze: 25 points + Rising Reader, Silver: 35 points + Super Reader, Gold: 45 points + Advanced Reader, Platinum: 90 points + Advanced Reader, Diamond: 135 points + Advanced Reader
Fourth Grade
Bronze: 30 points + Rising Reader, Silver: 45 points + Advanced Reader, Gold: 60 points + Star Reader, Platinum: 120 points + Star Reader, Diamond: 180 points + Star Reader
**Students in grades 1st - 4th who have an IEP for literacy will have modified AR goals. Contact your child's teacher or Tia Brickey for these modified goals.**
CERTIFICATION LEVELS
Independent Reader - The student must read at least three books with a 1.2 or higher book level and accumulate ten points. Only books Read Independently count toward the three-book goal; however, books Read To, Read With or Read Independently for this level count toward point accumulation.
Rising Reader - The student must read three books with a 1.6 or higher book level and accumulate ten points. Only books Read Independently count toward the three-book goal and point accumulation.
Super ReaderRead independently and pass Reading Practice Quizzes for 3 books at a 2.0 book level or higher worth 1 or more points each.
Advanced Reader - The student must read three books with a 3.0 or higher book level that are each worth at least two points. Only books Read Independently count toward certification.
Star Reader - The student must read three books with a 4.0 or higher book level that are each worth at least four points. Only books Read Independently count toward certification.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD MEETS HIS/HER GOAL?
- Students will receive a book charm each time their monthly goal is met.
- At the end of the school year students will be awarded medals based on their achieved goal.
- All students that participate will be entered into a classroom drawing at at end of the year celebration.
- Students that reach Bronze, Silver, and Gold will be entered into a drawing for grand prizes.
- Students that reach Platinum and Diamond will recieve a special celebration separate from the end-of-the-year celebration.
HOW CAN I FIND HOW MANY POINTS MY CHILD HAS?
