Suicide Awareness
Who might be hiding?
How Common is Suicide?
There are over 38,000 deaths by suicide every year, making it the 10th leading cause of death in the US and the 2nd for people between the ages 15 and 24. In the United States alone, there is a death by suicide every 13 minutes. Suicide is becoming more and more popular as society labels it as "the only escape" and "how to deal with pain." Teens everywhere are attempting suicide without telling people because they're scared to be judged by the people in their school. We all need to be more aware and considerate of the people around us and how we treat them.
How Can You Help?
If you feel the need to help someone that you think might be suicidal, be aware of the signs. Some of these signs include:
-Loss of interest in things they used to enjoy
-Change in sleeping habits
-Increases in anxiety
-Feeling as if they're a burden to others.
Just because a person is showing these signs doesn't mean that they're suicidal. The best you can do for them is just be there for them and let them know that they matter.
