Social Development and Learning

Ashley Hamilton & Brittany Welker

Learning Through Cause and Effect

  • Cause and effect is a relationship between events in which one event causes another
  • Ex. Infants learn they can get their needs met by crying
Learning Through Immitation

  • As children grow, they watch the behavior of important adults in their lives and then imitate those actions
  • Adults should model desirable behaviors
  • Always give a baby clear messages
  • Ex. Smile while expressing love or approval
  • Provide consistent responses to a baby's behaviors
