West Oxford Owl
November 9, 2023
This was a short week, but it was certainly full! Our fourth grade students went to the North Carolina History Museum, progress reports went home, and we learned about veterans as we look toward celebrating Veteran's Day this weekend. Many staff attended a safety training Tuesday, while others participated in Science of Reading training. West Oxford is a great place to learn, whether you are students or staff!
Your student's safety is always our top priority. As we evaluate our arrival procedures, we ask that if you arrive after staff have left the car line, please bring your child in so that you can sign them in. This will help things run smoother in the morning and ensure that students are supervised from the car to the building. Please remember that students need to be in class at 7:45, and that doors open at 7:20.
It is International Education Week next week! As a global school, we think with students about how to pay attention, stay connected, and take action in our community. Our students are focusing this year on the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health and Well Being, and as we think about our community, we recognize that hunger is an issue impacting health in Oxford. We are going to take action in our seventh annual food drive and walk to ACIM this Friday, November 17th. There is a bin in the front office for donations, and permission slips for our walk will go home Monday.
Mark your calendars for this week's events:
- November 14th is our first iMom's Breakfast! Bring breakfast to share with your student and join us for our first fall breakfast for mothers and mother-figures.
- Our next PTO meeting is November 14th at 6:00. Hope to see you there!
- On November 16th we are hosting our district's inaugural Stop and Drop Off Hope Event. Donations of gas cards, laundry supplies, and new clothes are welcome.
- Friday is a club day for 3rd-5th graders.
- The following week, we will attend school on Monday and Tuesday. There will be no school for students Wednesday through Friday to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday!
