8th Graders READ THIS
SMS 8th graders need to pay close attention to these two upcoming events.
The 8th-grade dance is Friday, May 18th. The dance will be held in the Great Room and is for SMS 8th-graders only. Admission is $3. Parents and teachers will chaperone. The theme is yet to be determined, but all 8th graders should know that the dance is NOT a prom or formal event. Prom gowns, tuxedos, and limousines are strongly discouraged. Instead, students are encouraged to wear anything in the spectrum from school clothing to spring dresses or dress pants with shirt and tie. Students must attend school all day so please hold any hair or nail events after school! If you have any questions, see Miss Nass.
Freshman Boot Camp will be held June 4th to June 21st. Class will be held from 8 AM to noon, Monday through Thursday, on the SHS campus. Transportation is not provided. Any SMS 8th-grader with more than one core subject F for semester 2, will be required to attend and pass Boot Camp. The program is staffed by SHS teachers and they will determine who is ready for high school and who should repeat 8th grade. Take promotion matters into your own hands! Do your work. Pass your courses. Don't get assigned to the program! If you have any questions about Boot Camp, ask Miss Nass. If you think you'll be a candidate, start discussing transportation options with parents and guardians NOW.
Bonus App Package
In order for you to KEEP the apps, you must demonstrate maturity and restraint and use the apps only during personal time. You are not to use the apps during SSR reading time, class activity time, or study hall work time. If you are unsure, ask your teacher or supervisor. If you access a bonus app at an inappropriate time, the apps will be removed from your device.
Enjoy this opportunity to play, create, and explore, and this opportunity to demonstrate some maturity!
Art and Talent Show Reminders
Calling all artists!
The SMS Art Show is on April 27th, and all SMS students are welcome to enter one or many pieces of artwork. Students who are interested need to fill out the Art Show Participant Google Form that is linked to the Canvas Community Page. Awards will be given the night of the Art Show to Best of Show 2-D, Best of Show 3-D, People’s Choice Award, and Most Creative. Students will be expected to stay after school on Tuesday, April 24th to mat and prepare artwork for the show and on Friday, April 27th to set up artwork in the cafeteria. Please see Mrs. Owen if you have any questions or if you need to check out art supplies.
Calling all talented students!
Show off your vocal, instrumental, dance, comedy, magic, and other talents in the annual SMS Talent Show, also April 27th. Tryouts are being held on two nights. Tuesday, April 3rd and Wednesday, April 4th from 3:15 to 4:15 in room 703. Pick ONE night to tryout. Participants will be required to attend a dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 26th from 3:15 to 5:30 PM and then the REAL DEAL is Friday night, April 27th. More show details will be released in April.
Spring break is a GREAT time to create/prepare your art and a GREAT time to create/practice your talent.
