Newsletter Week 7 Term 2

Turua School 16th June 2022

A big thank you to all those parents who were able to pick their children up earlier yesterday. It certainly made it easier for those supervising students while teachers prepared for interviews. Teachers really appreciated the opportunity to talk with parents and will be contacting some parents to arrange alternative times this week. Many families have already arranged alternative times.

It appears that Covid is all around us again with students in Ika Iti and Te Wheke both testing positive. Please be vigilant in checking for symptoms and testing. Currently isolation remains at 7 days for both positive cases and household contacts.

A reminder that we do have Rapid Antigen Tests at school which you are most welcome to collect from the office.

One of the main focuses of our Garden to Table program is supporting our tamariki to develop life skills. This week this was precision knife skills, and being able to quickly whip up a batch of scones or cheese puffs without effort. It was soup week in the kitchen, Mangōpare cooked up some broccoli and cheese soup, and Kaitaki made some beetroot and red cabbage borscht, all accompanied by cheese puffs. Different tastes but delicious. Out in the garden a positive start was made beautifying the area with mulch and continuing planting of vegetables. The biggest accomplishment this week though was that we were able to utilise our new outdoor furniture. A massive massive thank you to Jamie Quirk for building these. We were very lucky to receive a grant for the timber from the Seagull Centre and already we have these amazing tables and chairs. They are so much better than we even imagined!
