A Note From Mrs. Craighead...
Draper Families,
Happy new year! We are so excited to kick off 2021 and the second semester of learning for our students. It is great to see the our students smiling faces again this week.
For students switching their mode of instruction (on campus or remote) for Term 3, they will begin rotating the their new schedule on Monday, January 11th.
In a couple of weeks, students will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test in each of their language arts, math and science classes. Students are tested on MAP in these areas in September, January and late April each school year. The results of the middle of the year progress check will be sent home once students have completed all three assessments toward the end of January.
Thank you for making every effort to see that your children are in attendance each day through remote or on campus learning . Attendance is taken at 9:45 am each day.
As always, if we can help in any way please don’t hesitate to contact us here at Draper Intermediate. Have a wonderful weekend!
You make a difference!
Beth Craighead
Student Schedules for Learning Term 3 Begin Monday, January 11th!
Campus Safety Protocols
We have taken measures to add safety protocols to the school, such as:
- Hand Sanitizer stations
- Water fountains are shut off and replaced with water bottle filling stations
- Social Distancing Stickers on the ground outside waiting areas such as; restrooms, cafeteria/lunch lines, etc.
- Scanners and barcodes on student identification badges will be used in the cafe and create a contactless checkout for purchases.
- The cafeteria seats will be marked with stickers to indicate where students will sit, skipping seats next to and across from one another to allow for social distancing.
- "Excess" furniture has been removed from classrooms to allow student work areas (desks/tables) to be further spaced out.
- Students and teachers will be wearing masks during the day. Teachers will also be supplied with a face shield.
- All classrooms and learning spaces are equipped with disinfectant spray and paper towels. Student work areas and high touch areas in the classrooms will be cleaned between each class period.
- Transitions between class periods are staggered to limit the number of students in the halls at one time. Draper Intermediate has created a "one way" only pattern throughout the halls. Hallways will be marked with arrows and signage indicating the traffic pattern. Students will follow the marked directions as they transition to their next class.
- Students will report to their first period class when they arrive on campus in the morning. Students needing breakfast will go to the cafeteria to eat and then on to their first period.
- Dismissal at the end of the school day will be staggered and students will be released in waves to limit the number of students passing in the hallways at one time.
- Please talk with your child about wearing their mask for long periods of time at school. Have them start practicing now wearing a mask for extended periods of time.
- School doors will open at 7:45am, classes begin at 8:15am and students will be dismissed at 3:30pm. Dropping off and picking up as close to the school hours of operation will limit students congregating before and after school outside of the building.

Counselor Corner...
As we all know, 2020 was filled with change, growth, and self-discovery. Because of this, we want to emphasize the importance of self-regulation with our students here at Draper.
Emotional-regulation is the ability to respond to and manage one’s emotions. Emotions are a normal part of our everyday lives and can change throughout the course of a day. At Draper, our goal is to promote, teach, and help students implement coping strategies to handle these various emotions by teaching them the skill of self-regulation. Our campus counselors will utilize the Club 2021 time to work with our students.
By reaching this goal, we will empower our students with the healthy strategies they can utilize to defuse strong emotions so that they can reset and refocus as needed. Additionally, students can focus on healing as a way to combat unhealthy habits or behaviors. Ultimately, we want our students to know it is: “OK to feel the feeling, but they do not have to become the emotion.”
