Classroom Instruction Heats Up

Hopefully everyone had the chance to enjoy the beautiful weather over the weekend! As the weather outside cools-off, classroom instruction begins to heat-up! We want to thank everyone for all of your efforts over the past few weeks in setting up your classroom expectations and reinforcing school-wide expectations. Don't forget to take the PBIS School Safety Survey. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.

We look forward to continuing to observe high-quality differentiated instruction with high-levels of student engagement as we begin the first round of classroom observations this week. Your evaluating administrator will be contacting you soon to set up scheduled observations. Our collaboration this week will focus on utilizing our new Math in Focus materials and resources. Katherine Schack will be here to assist us with questions or concerns you may have.

Thanks for all you do!

Doug and Melissa

Lunch Room Procedure Update.... Changes will start Tuesday, Sept. 23rd

Based on feedback shared at the grade chair meeting and meeting with recess/cafeteria staff the following changes will be made starting Monday, Sept. 22nd:

Numbers on Hooks:

  • Each grade level will be assigned a color for their numbers.
  • These numbers will remain hanging on the hooks.
  • Instruct your students to hang their number over the number that is already hanging on the hooks.

Points for Class Lining Up, Teacher on Time, and Teacher Dismissing on Time:

  • Since students are becoming very good at lining up at recess, we need to revise how the #1 point is given out. This is a good problem to have!
  • When you come into the cafeteria, you might see a #2 hanging with a star on it. This signals to you that your class came in 2nd but was lined up at the same time as the #1 class. There was a tie. Please instruct your students that the number and the star means the same as #1. All classes with a number and star receive the point.

  • The sticker for the point discussed above will be put up by the teacher. You may put this up if you arrived on time to the cafeteria and remember to dismiss on time.
  • Stickers are stored on the table by front of cafeteria.
  • Please celebrate with your students.

Bonus Points:

  • Bonus points are used to help correct a behavior that needs fixed. Bonus points will not last forever and will change based on need.
  • Changes will be announced through Pride Press.
  • Current Bonus Point is for Voice Level Zero. This will be given to any grade level that remains at Voice Level Zero after the signal has been given.
  • If the signal is given twice by the cafeteria/recess workers, the bonus point is lost for the day.
  • Teachers need to be actively watching classes and monitoring for Voice Level Zero.
  • Please know that as grades show they don't need as much time at Voice Level Zero that time will be adjusted. Currently several grade levels have already been adjusted.
  • Bonus points will be added by recess/cafeteria workers after lunch is done.

Indoor Recess:

  • Classrooms who line up quickly and quietly will be given their number.
  • Again if this number has a star on it this signals to the classroom teacher and students that they earned the point for #1.
