Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
March is Reading Month.....a month for all types of readers!!
I think we all have heard by now that it is, “March is Reading Month!” at Grandview.
As part of promoting reading – especially this month – the major goal is to promote and encourage the importance of early childhood learning, reading development, and parent engagement by getting all Grandview children reading and finding love of reading both at home and at school.
Most of us take reading for granted. Yet, there are many children and adults who struggle to read. Research shows that children typically learn to read by the third grade – then read to learn after that. Research also shows that children who cannot read by the third grade often experience developmental and academic challenges throughout their K-12 education and beyond.
Books can be life changing. It doesn’t matter if you are five or a mid-career professional. Take a moment and think about a book that may have inspired you. Has a book impacted your life? Share that with your child.
The importance of reading cannot be overstated. Each night before you turn off the light, pick up a book and read with your child and read for yourself. Also be an active participant to our month of reading fun. Have fun with our reading calendar. Encourage your child to turn off the electronics and pick up a book. Come and join us on Wednesday, March 6th to celebrate reading at Milk and Cookies night. Come and support the book fair this week and help to build up your child's home library. Just find the joy of reading
As Dr. Suess says, “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”

Custody Information
WIDA
All students who have a language other than English spoken at home and are identified as English Learners must take a state test called WIDA ACCESS for ELLs (Accessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners). The Enrollment Office form that was completed when your son/daughter enrolled in Clarenceville Schools tells us this information. Students will take the test eve if they are not attending ESL/EL classes. The test is for Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Comprehension in English. Students will start testing at Grandview on Monday and will go until March 22, 2019. We will mail your child's test results to you when we receive them from the Michigan Department of Education. Also if there is snow on the ground and your child does not have boots or snow pants, then they will be asked to stay on the blacktop. In order to play in the snow, they will need boots and snow pants.
Pink Out Store
Team Gibson/Terpack still have the Pink Out Store opened. Suckers and other items will be sold to raise money for Karmanos Cancer Center. The store will be set up in the main hallway by the office and will be student run.
Reflection Room
Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Kroger and Grandview
We received over $100 from Kroger from our last reporting. Thank you to all of you who have added Grandview to your account. Though know that it is never too late to sign-up and join!!! So shop away, Grandview is benefitting from your grocery shopping!
Simply encourage your participants to visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into their Kroger account they can search for Friends of Grandview either by name or TH003 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
*Customers must have a registered Kroger rewards card account to link to your organization.
*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please let them know they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger
REMEMBER, purchases will not count for your organization until after your participants register their rewards card.
Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.
Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
