Online High School PD Opportunities
Courses Qualify for the Proviso Bill Funding Requirement
Online High School Professional Development Opportunities for Science (Biology) and Mathematics are:
Science: Biology EOC - Closing the Achievement Gap (Online Course)
This course focuses on trends in data from the Biology End-of-Course (BIO EOC) assessment, a Washington state graduation requirement, and will prepare high school science teachers to identify strategies that will help their specific students tackle the assessment with confidence. We will explore what data tells us about student performance and challenges on the BIO EOC. Teachers will learn research-proven strategies for working with ELL, migrant, and poverty-impacted students, which improve learning for all students. Using pre- and post-measures, teachers will be able to identify the challenges their students are having and adjust their instruction to assist them.
Designed as an Online Opportunity for all High School Biology Teachers.
Once completed, this course satisfies the requirement for the Proviso Bill Funding.
Math: Closing the Achievement Gap - Developing Conceptual Understanding through Productive Routines (Online Course)
Math: Closing the Achievement Gap - Developing Conceptual Understanding through Productive Routines (Online Course)
This workshop has a content focus on quadratic functions and a pedagogical focus on the implementation of instructional routines that promote mathematical reasoning and student discourse. Teachers will explore quadratic functions through rich tasks, and they will have the opportunity to experience, analyze, and learn to implement productive instructional routines and strategies that they can incorporate into their mathematics lessons and units.
"Do you find that students struggle to understand the concepts underlying quadratic functions and equations? Do they struggle with fluency in manipulating quadratic expressions? This professional development examines how we can provide our students with the opportunity to deeply understand the conceptual underpinnings of quadratics through instructional routines that promote mathematical reasoning and student discourse."
Designed as an Online Opportunity for all High School Math Teachers.
Once completed, this course satisfies the requirement for the Proviso Bill Funding.
