iReady Diagnostic 2
We are shaking things up and trying something new with our iReady Diagnostic 2. We have learned that many Florida districts are finding success in doing a 20-20-20 minute plan for iReady diagnostics. Instead of one long session for the diagnostic, the recommendation is three days per subject area for only 20 minutes.
Benefits of this included more accurate data since students were less likely to tune out, fewer rush flags, and less interruption or elimination of instructional time. Some districts shared they used intervention time instead of core and eliminated a loss of core instruction during assessment windows. This is an OUTSTANDING idea and one we will follow for our iReady Diagnostic 2 starting this week. Please remember that your core Tier 1 instructional time is most important and impactful on our students. The purpose of our iReady Math and Reading diagnostic is to drive instruction.
ESE Teachers are expected to administer iReady Diagnostics to their ESE students, providing students accommodations per IEP.
Please review the importance of this diagnostic with your students and set goals for their success.

Social Studies Updates
African American History Month begins today. This observance was officially established by President Gerald Ford in 1976 to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Please use this document as needed for curriculum resources and schoolwide suggested activities.
This month 4th grade teachers may also be teaching about Harry and Harriette Moore. The resources for doing so are found here. If any teachers, however, are still interested in PD concerning Harry and Harriette Moore, it's not too late! There is a training for anyone today from 3:30-4:30 via Zoom. No need to sign up, just sign in: Zoom link: https://brevardschools-org.zoom.us/j/85734748133
The lesson(s) may also be taught in the 4th 9 weeks during Unit 7.
The Civics Seal of Excellence courses have begun. If you were not able to sign up, but are still interested, you can get on a wait list as the classes filled up fast and are currently full. Go to www.civicsexcellence.org to find out more.
Upcoming: I am going to be sending out via the Leadership Team Packet soon an application for any teachers interested to be involved in looking at the new standards and the upcoming adoption process. Be on the lookout:)
