Message from Ms. Rosenquist

It's National School Counseling Week! I'd like to publicly acknowledge and thank our wonderful School Counselor, Mike Parker, who provides care, skills, strategies, connection, and support for all of our Bethany students. He's the friendly face at drop off and pick up who knows everyone's name and has a few character personas that the kids LOVE...especially when "Money Shark" comes out to recess. I am grateful for his calm demeanor, his listening skills, and compassion for young children who may be experiencing hardship or challenges that make it difficult for them to learn.

We have a wonderful team of staff who work with students, staff, and, families in a similar role. Mrs. Burton, our Student Success Coach, and Ms. Schimpke, our School Social Worker, who also deserve recognition for their tireless and dedicated efforts to tending to the varied needs of our Bethany Community. We are so lucky to have a Behavioral Health and Wellness Team that makes a positive impact in our school every day!

Getting Ready for Ramadan! I wanted all families who observe Ramadan to know that we will have a dedicated space available (most likely the library) for students who are fasting to go during lunch time. We will have a dedicated prayer space set up (and we've had one all year in my office too). Please let your child's teacher know if your child plans to fast during Ramadan and/or if they would like a space for prayer. Thank you! 🙂

It's Black History Month! Thank you to Heidi Groissant and Heather Worsham for creating the amazing Bulletin Board for Us.

I will be asking 5th graders who are interested in taking on an extra credit challenge to do a little research about a one of these inspiring people from history, or perhaps someone not on the list, to help us all learn more about the significant contributions of African Americans throughout time in so many different fields! The goal is for them to create a video or slideshow that can be linked to each page with a QR code that can be enjoyed by the rest of the school using their ipads, phones, or chromebooks to access the content. 🙂. Stay tuned for updates.

Big picture

By now you should have been notified that your child's report card is available in PARENT VUE. (This is different from Parent Square that we use for communication). ParentVUE is a platform that houses report cards, test scores, class schedules, attendance information, and more. You'll want to get very familiar with tool when your kids get into to middle and high school! Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

I hope to see you all at the PTO Meeting tonight at 7 pm.

Volunteers

We appreciate all of the hours that our volunteers are working at school. It is so encouraging to see parents and grandparents reading with students, helping with math, working in the Library, working in the Cafeteria, teaching art lessons and much more.

We are needing to keep better track of the hours for some of our reporting. We are now asking volunteers to sign into the computer or use the app on their phone to sign in. We will not be using the sign-in book to track most volunteer hours.

You had to set up an account with a username and password when you did your background check. This is the information that you will use to sign in to the school computer. If you have forgotten your information, please come a few minutes early and the office can help you find your Username and help change your password.

If you want to sign in on your phone, you will need to download the My Impact app found in your App store.

If you have not done the background check and would like to begin volunteering, please click on the link below to get started.

Love the Bus Week

Join us as we celebrate the big yellow school bus February 13-17th. During Love the Bus week we invite parents, students, and staff to take a moment to thank the 270 bus drivers that safely transport 28,000 students to our Beaverton schools daily.

Elementary students are invited to create a card and show appreciation for their bus driver during the week. On Wednesday, 2/15, all elementary students who ride their school bus will also receive a prize! For more information and to download a card template visit www.beaverton.k12.or.us/safe-routes
