Message From Your Principals
Message from your principals
Welcome Back Families!
I hope this message finds you well and that the first couple weeks of school have been a positive and smooth experience for both you and your children. As we welcome everyone back to campus, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our first day's journey and extend my warmest greetings.
The energy and excitement that fill our hallways during this time of year are truly invigorating. It's inspiring to witness the smiles, the reunions, and the eager faces of students ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities.
I want to express my gratitude to all of you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. Our dedicated faculty and staff have been hard at work to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child can thrive. We are excited about the incredible potential that lies ahead for each and every one of our students.
During the first week, we have seen countless moments of curiosity, resilience, and growth. These early experiences are building blocks for the rest of the school year. I encourage you to take time to connect with your children about their experiences, listen to their stories, and share in their excitement.
Please know that we are always here to support your child, and we value open lines of communication between home and school. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to reach out to our dedicated staff or us.
As we embark on this new school year, let's remember that we are a community—a family that supports and uplifts one another. Together, we will navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes that lie ahead.
Thank you for being an essential part of the Timberwolf family. I look forward to the incredible journey we will embark on together in the months to come.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our students.
April Vonderharr, Principal
Salina Machida, Assistant Principal
SAYING GOODBYE IN THE MORNING
Now that our student know the routine, we ask that you say your goodbyes at the front of the building and let your child independently walk to class. We have lots of staff to help and support your student.

NURSE KRISTINE
If possible, in a ziplock bag, please put a full set of clothes in your child's backpack. Rainy season is upon us and we do not have many clothes on site for your child to change into.
Medications: If your student needs to have medications here at school for life threatening conditions, the nurse will be contacting you. We are getting ready to start the exclusion process if you do not have it in. Please be in contact with your provider's office to get orders in.
If your child is having a medical procedure please let Nurse Kristine know. I will need to follow up to with any restrictions, meds, etc.
The following are some guidelines for keeping children at home when they are feeling ill.
If a child becomes ill at school, symptoms are noted and you will be notified to pick up your child. If you or a parent/guardian cannot be reached, the person listed as the emergency contact will be called. Please make sure that throughout the school year you provide the school with your current work, home and emergency contact information.
Fever: An oral temperature over 100° F, especially when other symptoms are present.
Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications
(such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) before returning to school.
Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea: Your child should not return to school until 24 hours after
the last time they vomited or had diarrhea.
Known communicable diseases: Should not be sent to school without the specific approval of
your child’s health care provider.
If your child is having a medical procedure please let me know. So I can follow-up with restrictions, meds, etc.
Earache, ear drainage, sore throat, persistent cough or runny nose if the discharge is yellow or green: Contact your child’s healthcare provider for further guidance or
recommendations.
Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing: Contact your child’s
healthcare provider for further guidance or recommendations.
Eye drainage: May indicate conjunctivitis, a common infectious disease of the eye (also
known as pink eye). Keep your child at home if there is white or yellow drainage from the eye(s), altered vision and/or redness of the eyelid or skin surrounding the eye. See a health care provider if your child has these symptoms.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
The first full day begins on Sept. 18, 2023.
Please help your child to bring a standard size backpack, a (separate) simple snack, water bottle, lunch or they can receive a free school lunch.
GREEN ROOM/SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Battle Ground Public Schools has expanded the use of learning centers to provide additional support for students at every grade level. At TVP ours is called "The Green Room". SEL Centers are there to help all students who need a few minutes to take a break, problem solve, and to continue building skills necessary to be ready for learning. These rooms are staffed with a trained paraeducator and provide a quiet place to help students learn to manage emotions, take personal responsibility, and mend and maintain relationships.
LABELING ITEMS FROM HOME
Please help us by labeling jackets, lunch boxes and water bottles. As our weather changes kids come wearing something warm and by recess are hot and leave the items on the playground. We appreciate your help.
ABSENCES
Please call the office at 360-885-6200 or email the office at tvpoffice@battlegroundps.org when your child is absent. Please do not notify the teacher directly of the absence (unless you notify us as well). If your child's teacher is absent we may not get the message. Please remember you have 72 hours to excuse an absence.
BUS INFORMATION
Busing and First Student ParentView app
If your transportation needs have changed, please make sure to opt in or out of busing during the annual student update. Making this selection ensures that First Student, the district’s transportation service provider, can accurately schedule and balance bus services on the first day of school. Bus routes will be posted to the district website no later than one week prior to the start of school.
The FirstView app is an easy and convenient way to view bus routes and schedules, and even receive a notification if your student’s bus is close to their stop or running late. FirstView is available via the Apple App store, Google Play or online. Get information on setting up the app. Please note: Data on routes will not be available within the app until the first day of school. The four-digit district code to access the app is H5ED.
WANT TO HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD?
Parents and younger siblings are welcome to have lunch with their student anytime. We ask that you come to the office to sign in and get a visitor badge. Unfortunately we can't have younger siblings out on the playground.
PARENT PICK UP
When you pick up your child from the car line, please have your child get in and move forward to the middle school parking lot to buckle up safely.
SCHOOL HOURS AND CALENDAR
School starts at 9:00 a.m. and dismisses at 3:40 p.m.
A student is considered tardy at 9:10. Please come into the office to sign in your student.
Late start Wednesdays will begin on Sept 6th and school starts at 10am.
Please look at the school calendar for more information on specifics. The district has received approval from the state to once again add two additional student non-attendance days for staff development. This year, these dates will be on Wednesday, Nov. 15, and Wednesday, Feb. 7. In addition to late-start Wednesdays, these days will provide teachers with opportunities to plan instruction, analyze data and determine next steps for student growth. The additional time also allows for classified staff to complete required training.
