Keeping Up with Comm Arts
~ February 5, 2024 ~
Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!
It's a busy week at Comm Arts.
This week is National School Counseling Week. We are blessed to have Ms. Skidmore and Dr. Roselas as our counselors. They do so much to ensure the success and well-being of our students!
On February 7th, the Comm Arts student body will take Panoramic pictures. The senior-only picture will be at 10:30 am, and the whole campus picture will be at 11:00 am. Students and parents, please plan accordingly. We love to have everyone in the picture. Make sure students adhere to the dress code, please. Order information can be found in this newsletter. Wednesday is also a Professional Learning Time for teachers. They will be in a meeting, so there will be no tutoring before school.
Freshmen will take an English I STAAR field test on Thursday, February 8th.
Friday, February 9th, grades will be uploaded for progress reports. Progress reports will be available on HAC next week, Monday, the 12th. Students, check your grades and keep up with your assignments. Friday is also Grass Roots (6:30 pm) and Black History Month presentation (6 pm). Students who want to attend or participate in Grass Roots should See Mr. Polinard to purchase a ticket. Our very own BSU is taking part of the Black History Month presentation.

Voter Fest Field Trip
Seniors celebrated Help America Vote Day by attending the Youth Voter (and Poll Worker) Fest at Palo Alto College last Tuesday. Students heard from special guests: Rachel Sakai, retired educator and wife of Judge Sakai, District 4 Councilwoman Adriana Rocha-Garcia, District 6 Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda, and District 9 Councilman John Courage. While making their plan to vote, over 20 Comm Arts students completed their voter registration process. Almost all students participated in the election simulation station with voting machines from the Bexar County Elections Department.

Wise Words with Dr. Rosales & Ms. Skidmore
Resiliency is the ability to bounce back after something challenging or tough has happened. Letting our teens navigate this world can be difficult because we don’t want them to experience any adversity. Sometimes, adults want to remove all the challenges and obstacles our kids face, which is not the best way to prepare them for adulthood. The reality is that life will throw unexpected events at our teens, and knowing how to handle these situations will help them be better prepared to face a world that comes with challenges. Resiliency builds confidence and character strength, so here are some ways you can help your teen build resilience.
