PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Greetings families,
The end is almost near, and with a very successful field day behind us, our Physical Education classes will be focusing on lessons such as exercise and fitness, along with kicking skills for the month of May. I hope for your student to carry on what they have learned during this unit and continue to practice it during their summer break. It is important for your child to have at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity.
Please remind your child to bring their own water bottle and wear athletic shoes during their last remaining designated PE days, especially as the weather warms up and some class will take place outdoors. It is important for your child to wear the appropriate shoes to PE so that they can become fully engaged in the activity, not to mention to help prevent related injury. Your child will be allowed to participate if their shoes do not cause a problem for them. If your child cannot participate for medical reasons, please have them provide me with a written and signed doctor’s note to excuse them from any strenuous activity. Safety is my overall concern for your child, everything else comes second. If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to Physical Education, please feel to email me at: jose.martins@onslow.k12.nc.us
Thank you,
JT Martins

The spring book fair will begin on Thursday, May 12th and will end on Friday May 20th. Book fair hours will be 8:00 am to 2:45 pm daily. This year, we will also have evening shopping hours during our STEAM Family Night on Wednesday, May 18th. Online shopping for the book fair will begin on Thursday, May 12th and end on Wednesday May 25th. The online shopping link is: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/silverdaleelementaryschool
The end of the year is quickly approaching! Overdue notices will be sent home so that students can begin clearing their accounts before the end of the school year. Student checkouts will end on May 27th. If your student has a lost or damaged book, there a couple of options available: a bill can be generated to collect the cost of the book, or they may replace the book. The book must be the same title and format (paperback or hardcover). Books can often be found on Amazon or discounted bookstores at a significant discount. Please keep in mind the books/materials not paid for or replaced will remain on the students account as long as they are an Onslow County Schools student.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at carrie.meadows@onslow.k12.nc.us or (910) 326-5146.
Sincerely,
Carrie Meadows Media Coordinator

1st Grade - 1st Graders loved creating Rainbow Cupcakes with oil pastels as well. They also made some cute bunnies with neon paint for Easter, and most excitedly, had a TON of fun creating Yarn Turtles with yarn and popsicle sticks!
2nd Grade - Students in 2nd grade have been continuing their exploration of Mexican art with Frida Kahlo-inspired Self Portraits! Students have then been excitedly creating egg-shaped pinch pots for easter!
3rd Grade - Everyone has been super excited to finish their clay Name Pendants and have now started creating Yarn Baskets after learning about Native American basket weaving.
4th Grade - Students in 4th grade have learned about Pop Artist, Andy Warhol and have been making inspired Emoji artwork. They also started Basket Weaving after learning about Native American basket weaving.
