CLASSROOM PLACEMENT
A reminder that our staff has worked very hard to develop class lists. Sending and receiving grade level teaching teams and special education staff (when applicable) work together, with administration, to create class lists that are in line with the goal of our WRSD School Committee Policy (“establish classes that will enhance the dynamics of the classroom by bringing students together who will work as a learning team, and challenge and complement one another”). Classroom placement is an important, complex and time-consuming process that our staff takes very seriously.
A volunteer parent questionnaire was sent home last spring to provide parents an opportunity to offer input related to their child’s learning style and provide any pertinent information that may support Dawson staff in the placement process. Per School Committee Policy, parental requests for specific teachers are not to be considered in the placement process.

A little about myself, I graduated from Worcester State University with my B.S. in Psychology and more recently my M.Ed and Ed. S in school psychology. I grew up in Worcester and moved to Rutland almost three years ago. Over the summer, I got married and vacationed in Aruba! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my two crazy dogs Lobo and Zuko. I also love all things crafty and am often working on some type of DIY project!
If we haven't had the chance to meet, please stop by my office and say hello! Happy new school year!
Why is the general store so exciting? Part One: Tradition
Last month I talked about the lightbulb that went off while going into Brewster General Store. As we approach the start of school, I am wondering what traditions families and schools do to begin the year. One of my friends takes her children out to breakfast every first and last day of school to celebrate new beginnings- the start of school and the start of summer. Although I never had a family tradition for the first day of school, I am going to start one this year. I am thinking of taking my 17 and 11-year-old out to dinner the night before and ask them to think about one goal for themselves this year and write it down. As the year progresses, I will check in with them to see if they are working towards that goal. Everyone needs an intention to stay empowered and engaged!
I am going to try to start a new back to school tradition this year with a Facebook Live read aloud. You might be thinking what Facebook Live is. On Monday night at 7:00 pm I will be at home surrounded by stuff animals reading to your children LIVE!!!! Yes no pre-recording. I am super excited about this opportunity to connect with families and children in a new way. (https://www.facebook.com/DawsonElementarySchoolDolphins)
What tradition(s) can you start as a family to SPARK excitement about returning to school?
