LAF Update
April 16th
Just a note.....
I can wholeheartedly agree that working with several Google Classrooms can be confusing especially in our families with multiple children. Truthfully, I have found myself overwhelmed with managing my kindergartners' Google Classrooms, and I think I am pretty organized and well versed in the Google Platforms.
Here is my suggestion, stick to the weekly schedule. If your child is working for more than about an hour in one subject area - stop, take a break, and move onto something else. At school, our students are in constant motion. They attend to a lesson, apply the skills, move back to their desk, work a little, engage with their peers. They only focus for about an hour in one subject area. If they do not complete the work, they can write a note to their teacher explaining how they tried and how they need assistance. We are not expecting perfection. We want the students to engage with the materials the best they can but never to a level of frustration.
We know everyone is trying their best and we thank you for managing your work and their school work. My wishes for continued good health and more sunny days ahead.

Math - Free Choice Fridays!!!
We are excited to introduce Free Choice Friday this week! On Friday morning, a choice board with nine options to engage your child in mathematics will be released. This board will be used for four consecutive weeks on Friday. The activity chosen is the math assignment for the day. Therefore, at the end of the month, four of the nine activities should be complete. The activities range from games and/or fluency practice to challenge problems.
In the classroom, we encourage students to engage with the mathematics, not just complete problems. Students may do this through conversation with their peers, with their teacher, or at times in a journal. We are hoping the choice board will give your child a chance to engage in mathematics with you or another member of your family in a meaningful and playful way. Some problems have answers while others are more open-ended and allow for many correct options. The purpose of these activities is the process of working through a problem and not focusing on the answer. If your child has a question about a problem or answer, please encourage them to reach out to their teacher.
Because we want the students to have a choice, we are releasing the board in its entirety, but please be mindful that this activity board is intended for use for four weeks. For those children that seek additional time with mathematics, there are an additional five tasks that they can engage in. Some may even like the challenge of completing the entire board. However, if the board is completed within the first week of release, there will not be additional activities presented on those next 3 Fridays.
Hope you enjoy the math!
