Common Core Resources

DISCUS - South Carolina's Virtual Library

Encyclopedia entries, magazine articles, and more about ANY topic are available from DISCUS. Fantastic for K - 5. You can sort hits by lexile. Plus, there are some awesome new resources on DISCUS this year, including BrainPopJr.! Ask us for the username and password to access DISCUS from home!

Go Go News

Current events for kids - good for K - 5. A good addition to My Little Earth. AND, there's an app for that!

BookFlix and TrueFlix

The Learning Commons has subscriptions to both of these online resources. BookFlix pairs a fiction and non-fiction book and TrueFlix is ALL non-fiction. Watch for log in information soon!

We have some FANTASTIC non-fiction that is wonderful for read alouds. Check out the resource list on Destiny called Common Core for some suggestions! We'll keep adding to this list throughout the year (AND, speaking of Resource Lists - look for suggested books to go along with LLG & LifeSkills!)

Don't forget that we have magazines and that we get the newspaper everyday!

Finally, check out this fantastic article about lexiles from The Book Whisperer!

Outlook Calendars!

We are going to try something new this year to schedule the Learning Commons Conference Room, Learning Commons, Computer Lab, and STEM Lab. Watch for an email explaining how to use Outlook Calendars to schedule...coming SOON!

Summer Reading!

Did you or your students participate in summer reading? If so, be sure to bring your reading log, summer reading prizes, or the Lexington 1 summer reading genre bookmark to the Learning Commons by August 31! We can't wait to hear about all the great books you read this summer! If you want to know how Mrs. Byrd Fort did on her #bookaday challenge, visit the NPES Learning Commons Facebook page to see a photo of every book read this summer :)
