Week of March 7

The Big Push!

It is that time of the year again. We are in the throws of the long stretch of time between Winter Break and Spring Break. March always presents itself with a variety of struggles, and I hope with the signs of an early spring, we take a moment to stop and smell the roses. When I walk into classrooms, I am seeing some pretty amazing things going on, so take a second to pat yourselves on the back - you are doing a good job! And remember, some of our very worst days are a lot better than most schools best days!

As a staff member of Coltrane-Webb, be proud of that opportunity. I have thoroughly enjoyed the spirit on display this week as we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. One of my personal favorites were all the Things in Kindergarten. And, I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with today.

Thank you for choosing to work at Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School!

Shout-out to Mrs. Wilkerson! I stopped by and observed her students working on their Goods & Services projects. What a great way to integrate 21st century skills into the activity (i.e., financial and economic literacy)! See pics above!

Shout-out to Mrs. Thaxton! I noticed that she has "cloned" herself using video software to provide instruction on Words Their Way while she is able to target individual needs at her back table.

Shout-out to Mr. Rowe! Students were presented with the cool opportunity to listen to some traditional folk music played on the dulcimer. There was great dialogue between the students and the presenter. I especially liked when one of the students asked the gentleman if Mr. Rowe has asked him for his autograph.

(If you would like to include a shout-out to someone each week, please let me know by Thursday of each week)

Student of the Month - March

Please submit names to Elana via her link sent in an email on March 1. Here are a few pictures from last month. It was a huge success and we look forward to more to come!

HELP NEEDED - Whether you are on the PBIS Committee or would like to lend some support, I have a need. We will designate a bulletin board in the cafeteria to this event and we will print off pictures of the students and post them until the next month is ready to go up. Should be simple: Cut out "Student of the Month" using what we have on campus - that should stay up permanently, and all we have to do is change the month and add the pictures from the event as we go. The previous pictures will be given to the teachers to go home with students. If you are interested, please let me know.

CWES is in Space and Soon on Mars!

Thanks, Elana Moore, for finding this incredible opportunity through NASA and signing us up! Our school name will be included on the InSight Mission to Mars satellite was launched March 4, 2016. We will travel approximately 297,805,305 miles to our destination on Mars.

I find it fitting that the landing sight on Mars is called "Plain of Ideal Happiness". That is what Coltrane-Webb is to many of our students - their happy place.
