Placement for 2018-2019
We welcome letters from parents who wish to inform us of the needs (strengths, characteristics, etc.) of their child for the 2018-2019 school year. As we are unable to meet with each parent, this is a great way to share information about your child and help with placement for next year. We ask that you not mention a particular teacher’s name, since we will not be able to honor individual teacher requests. All letters should be provided to HSES in a sealed envelope addressed to Ms. Clark.
Save the Date!
Our annual Meet the Cheetahs Night will be on the following dates. This is your chance to meet your teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. We look forward to seeing you there!

2018 NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK POSTER CONTEST!
Each year, the National School Bus Safety Week (NSBSW) Committee conducts a poster contest to help publicize NSBSW. National judging takes place in the fall for a poster to be used the following year. This spring, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction is sponsoring a statewide poster contest. Winning entries will be displayed at www.ncbussafety.org and the top poster from each division will be submitted for the national poster contest. All North Carolina public school students in the appropriate grades may enter. For more information on the contest, please click HERE
Bus Rider Information from WCPSS
- If your (transportation eligible) child will be riding the bus from the same address to the same school next year, you do not need to take action. If you need to update your bus service, please go online at www.wcpss.net/busrider. On Friday, May 11, 2018, we will begin receiving (via the web and theTransportation Module) requests from transportation eligible families for the 2018-19 school year.
- Any transportation eligible family who needs to make a change for 2018-19 is requested to complete transportation requests by June 11th to ensure service on the first day of year round school.
- Up-to-date transportation information is available in your student’s Home Base/PowerSchool account. See the next section in the newsletter for more information on Home Base.
- If your student is assigned to a bus but is not a bus rider, please submit the decline bus form at www.wcpss.net/declinebus so that we have the most up-to-date information
Home Base
Home Base gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades and assignments. With Home Base, powered by PowerSchool application, everyone stays connected. Families with multiple students can also set up their accounts to view all of their students at one time, with one login. Even though grades are not displayed at the elementary level, information regarding school assignment and transportation can be found in the portal. For more information, please click HERE.

Kindergarten Playground Workdays
We are making great improvements to the Kindergarten playground and need help to get some of the work done. We have two workdays planned: May 19 and June 2. Both will run from 8:00 AM to noon. Water and snacks will be provided.
May 19 - Painting concrete areas with anti-skid paint, prepping some areas for mulch, adding rocks to correct some drainage issues, cleaning up landscaping, prepping tires for more paint, re-painting the chalk board in the tire space and hauling away some old items. If you have a shovel, trimmers or hedge clippers, please bring them.
June 2 - Finish some projects from the 19th, spread mulch. If you have a shovel, rake or pitch fork, please bring them.
If you can't make it for the whole time, we'll be grateful for any time you can help. Even an hour of your time can make a huge difference! To sign up to help, please click HERE
