A Note from our Art Teacher, Mrs. Binnick...
Hello Penguin Families,
I have been enjoying teaching art to your children, and want to make sure that you know about Artsonia. The former art teacher, Mrs. M used it, and I plan to try to continue it. The artwork that your child has made throughout this year has been wonderful, and I love how eager and creative all my LPES artists are when they come into the art room. Please spread the word about going onto Artsonia and clicking the permission button for the photos of their work to be seen publically. Their names stay private though.
Currently, art classes are working on the following units this month:
K- Aboriginal Art from Australia
1st- Self-portraits with border
2nd- Self-portraits with accessories
3rd- Illuminated Letter drawing/painting
4th- Radial Weavings with yarn
5th- Mythological clay creatures
I am also trying to get a gallery wall hung up as you enter the school on the green wall. The goal is to change the work quarterly. Mrs. Bame and I have been working together to plan this gallery wall to show off all the wonderful artwork LPES students are making. A huge thank you to Julie Jaquillard and Loretta Campbell for all your help with getting frames hung up last month. Also, thank you to Loretta Campbell for working on designing and displaying art work in various other cases and walls of the school! There are so many places to show off the beautiful art in this school.
Lastly, my 5th grade classes are in need of more sandwich sized zip-lock baggies for our clay projects. Also, my classes 4th grade classes are weaving with yarn, and we are in need of empty paper towel rolls. If you are willing to donate either of these items that will help out so much!
Artfully Yours,
Mrs. Laura Binnick
Scratch Day is Saturday, May 13th!
Field Day 2017 Information!
Field day is coming up and Coach Edwards needs parents to help supervise the activities for each of the sessions. Please see the link below and sign up if you can help. You must be a registered volunteer with Wake County Public schools to help supervise. If you would like to come and watch you are very welcome to do that but if you can help out that would be great. If you sign up for a session please come to the playground area 30 minutes before the start time to sign up for your game and ask any questions. You will sign in there so you do not have to go to the school office to sign in. If you sign up for one of the morning sessions and you would like to come earlier and help set up just send me an email so I know to be looking for you. mjedwards2@wcpss.net
